I efiled my fed on 3-14 and was accepted. Did not file my state. I saved my son's return over my return and had to reenter all data to create the return. The new file won't let me efile my state return only. Do I have to efile both fed and state and if so will it create any problems?

To clarify, did you complete and file your returns in TurboTax Online or TurboTax CD/Download software.
In TurboTax Online you do need to use a new User ID or you will overwrite the existing return. For more information, please see How do I start another return in TurboTax Online?
If you did overwrite all of your information, then your only option will be to file your state by mail since your federal return is no longer present in the system.
Please see How do I print and mail my return in TurboTax Online? for instructions.
I used the turbo tax download product. I did duplicate the original file. Not sure if I should redo the fed efile so that I can efile my state or just mail it in.

As stated above by @MichelleLO, you will need to mail in your state return for filing.
