My husband is trying to efile for his deceased parents. He is at the signature page and it’s only bringing up the signature info for his dad and not his mom. So when it goes to the review your federal filing choices it has signature e-filing pin or date of birth needed is in red. If he clicks on edit it just takes him back to the signature page which only has his dads info. I’m thinking that’s the issue since it didn’t ask for a signature for his mom? It won’t let him go any further. Any suggestions?

Your husband is signing the return, not his parents, so only one signature is needed.  Make sure that a date of death was entered for each of the parents, assuming they both died in 2022.  If one died in an earlier year, then their name should not be on the return at all.  Hope this helps.

Thanks so even though it has his dads first name on the signature page and filled in his birthdate should he enter his own info instead?

We went to the signature page and it has his dads first name on there, enter a pin, date of birth, todays date. Even if he changes the date of birth to his own it’s still giving that error message. Both are marked deceased in 2022 and we have the form 1310 included for both.

Since you are efiling, it is fine for the return signature info to match the return.  The TurboTax default info is fine.  To be sure everything is entered correctly, look at a .pdf or printout of page 1 of the Form 1040.  At the very top, it should show a notation "DECEASED . . ." followed by each parent's name and date of death.  If that is correct, then simply follow the TurboTax defaults through the signature section.

I think I understand your issue is that it is hanging up on not having his Mom's DOB and efiling PIN.  So if you are on a PC version (not online), go to the View menu at the top and select "Forms."  Then from the menu that will appear on the left-hand side, select "Info Wks" where you can manually enter those two pieces of information.  The birth date is near the top and the efiling PIN is near the bottom on page 4.  After those are entered, go to the View menu and switch back to "Step-by-Step" and it should work.  I'm so very sorry for your loss as well and will pray for you both today.  I'm attending GriefShare after losing my mom last year.  There are workshops around the country to help with the grieving process.

We are really confused. We marked both deceased and the dates. It shows on the personal info part. TurboTax generated a 1310 form for each so it knows they are deceased. If I click on to look at the actual 1040 form it doesn’t have DECEASED on top or anything. It won’t allow us to sign because it keeps giving the error message saying we haven’t done it.

Wow, that is confusing.  Now I'm only guessing, but I would make sure that the info on the "Info Wks" matches each of the "Personal Wks" and each Form 1310 and does NOT show your husband's birthdate.  Make sure you are using the 2022 version of TurboTax and entered dates of death as 2022.  Click Save and try exiting and reopening the tax file.  If it still doesn't work and you cannot get more help from Intuit (or don't want to spend more time), you can always print and paper file it, Certified Mail recommended.  IRS has more info available at www.irs.gov/individuals/deceased-person.  Best of luck.

We are using a mac download but I did see on that worksheet that there wasn’t a pin listed for his mom. So we manually added it and it seems like it went through ok. Guess we will find out if it’s accepted and processed. Thanks for the help. Yes it’s been a hard time. His mom passed end of august and his dad beginning of November

So glad something finally seemed to work!  Hope it gets accepted.

I am having the same problem with my parents return.  They both passed away last year and I can get past this screen that wants the pin, date of birth and date.  How did you get this fixed.  I am at a standstill and want to get the return filed.  It has taken me hours to get this far only to get snubbed.

I went into those worksheets mentioned manually and was able to see what was missing. Already received the federal refund but state is being “manually reviewed”.
