Duplicate TurboTax Accounts

I switched out computers in 2025 (primarily so I could use Windows 11 OS for purposes of using TurboTax 2025).  When I open app TurboTax 2025 on the new computer I get info saying I did not file using TurboTax 2024 last year.  I most certainly did.  I cannot seem to open TT2024 on the new computer, although I can see the saved proprietary TT2024 file and a saved TT2024 PDF.  (I see an icon for the TurboTax2024 app on my Windows 11 app list, but it will not open and says "install.")

When I got the message saying that I did not file using TT2024 last year, the next message says either I did not file using TT2024 last year (useless) or I have multiple TurboTax accounts.  It is pretty obvious I must have multiple TT accounts.

I need to resolve this (and get all of my past and 2025 records into one TT account).

How do I proceed?

You only need the file ending in .tax2024 to transfer into 2025.

On the old computer, Your tax files end in .tax or .tax2022 or .tax2023 or .tax2024 etc.  They should be in your Documents in a Turbo Tax folder.  You should also have the pdf files of each year.  Or search your computer for all files ending in .tax.  Also if you haven't done it,  I would open each year in the program and save it as a PDF file, go to File-Save to PDF so you don't need the program installed to view or print your return in the future like to get a mortgage or loan, etc.

What I would do is just copy the whole Turbo Tax folder that is under your Documents.  That should be where the .tax files and pdf files are stored.  Copy that folder to a flash drive or best yet is to burn it to a CD or DVD and then you will have a backup of them.   Then on the new computer copy the folder (or files) from the flash drive to your Documents folder.

The programs need to be installed from the CD or download them again.  You don't need to install them unless you need to amend or open a return.  They only support the last 3 years so you might not be able to update older years or download any state programs you need.

Since you now have to log into an Intuit Account all your downloads and licenses are listed there (even if you bought it from somewhere else) so if you need to download to install it again or install on another computer, even on the other operating system (Windows, Mac).  And the download will always be up to date with all the updates.

Duplicate TurboTax Accounts

Thank you very much for your help.

This is actually a different issue, but yes, I may actually need to open the app for 2023, because I just received (in Feb of 2026) a 1099-INT for 2023!  I now need to file a 1040X for TY2023.  I need to open the TT2023 to do this because I need to compute the tax owed on the amount of interest listed on the 1099-INT.

Do I have to actually open the TT2023 on the new computer?  The new computer does not have an optical drive and my TT2023 app was installed using a disc (which I still have).  The new computer is MS Windows 11 and when I used TT2023 I used a computer with OS MS Windows 10.

No you can still use the2023 program on the old computer.   You just need to install 2025 on Windows 11.   If you didn’t have the old computer like if it crashed then you would need to install the prior programs if you needed it to open the prior year.
