The IRS will automatically issue additional payments to those who received a third payment based on a 2019 tax return and who are eligible for an additional amount based on the information included on their 2020 tax return. You do not need to amend your return and your supplemental stimulus payment should be issued by the IRS when your 2020 return is processed.
If you do not receive your maximum third round payment in 2021, you may be eligible to claim the 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit when you file your 2021 federal income tax return in 2022.
yes - looks like thats what the website says.
crazy - called the IRS economic stimulus number twice. talked with 2 different agents; told the exact info to both. 1 said file an amended return for recovery credit; one said "wait" and they will send it to you.
so i guess i'll just wait - but that's my warning to all - double check when you hear info from the IRS!
@BeKind6 I suggest you wait to see what happens with the return you filed. It's never a good idea to file an amended return before the one you filed is fully processed, as it will likely slow things down further.
why would you send in an amendment in any event?
for the 1st two stimulus payments, if you were due more, it would appear on Line 30 of the 2020 tax return. WHy amend?
for the 3rd stimulus, that isn't on the 2020 tax return in any event. If the payment doesn't arrive, then it will be on Line 30 of the 2021 tax return
why do you think Line 30 on the 2020 tax return is incorrect? what number is there?
