Coinbase no longer supports the direct upload of your CSV file to TurboTax, resulting in an error message for some users.
Coinbase recommends using CoinTracker to calculate your cryptocurrency gains and losses and to access your CSV file.
Depending on how many transactions you have, you can try the steps below:
Use these steps when you cannot down load the transaction file.
solution is much better--report just the totals in each category, as you would with stocks. You can report just the summaries of each category (short-term, long-term, etc.) and then mail in the statement to the IRS after filing. Please follow these steps:

having the same issue - turbotax, please fix ASAP please!
I am hoping this is just a joke.
@Cynthiad66 marked as solved.
When I chose “premier” TurboTax, it stated that TurboTax accepts CSV files from its partners. Coinbase was listed. Coinbase says TurboTax is a partner.
When I am entering information on TurboTax, the Coinbase logo appears at the bottom of the screen.
Now TurboTax’s solution is “actually no we’re not 100% accurate in our advertising but that’s ok- now there’s a manual process that you can go through and also you have to mail hardcopy papers to the IRS but we won’t tell you what, how, or to where- and just use that 1099-B that you don’t have”
Thanks for the laugh. Let’s see about an actual fix?
Cointracker costs way more money to use, and needing to then pay for TT on top of it! This is not an acceptable solution. You advertise that Coinbase is a partner, Coinbase advertises you are a partner. Get with coinbase, solve the problem. End of story. This is not solved.
Can you not get a CVS file from CoinTracker? Coinbase recommends using CoinTracker to calculate your cryptocurrency gains and losses and to access your CSV file. @robotconquest @oDam1ano
please read the replies and the old help file TurboTax has banned access to. We can get CSV files and at the time we started the process- over a month ago- TurboTax stated and advertised it supported direct upload of CSV files.
No, Since I have more than 25 transactions (39), it will now cost me $59 to just get the CSV file from cointracker. Most of which are from Coinbase's rewards program, and then converting them to a crypto I use. At this point, it is plain bad business that Intuit ADVERTISED that this was a supported feature, and all of a sudden it is not.
The link above has screenshots taken within TurboTax and Coinbase stating how they're partners. This is completely unprofessional and violates trust with customers.
TurboTax claimed to support something, said they were partners with Coinbase, and now are suddenly pivoting their stance saying customers have to purchase a 3rd party service for something that was advertised as working.
It's bad business.
@brycarras
Agree 100%. Terrible business. Likely my last year with TurboTax and tempted to just start over with another service due to this.
Regardless of any of the nonsense the "employee experts" have posted, or updated help files that have been modified AFTER tax season started, when trying to choose a service from which to import a CSV, TurboTax STILL lists Coinbase as SEPARATE from CoinTracker.
And yet WILL NOT support this.
And my turbotax screen STILL has a Coinbase logo at the bottom.
TurboTax should be held libel for false advertising. Contact your state AG's and file a complaint.
If Coinbase no longer supports TurboTax CSV upload, then why does it say TT and Coinbase have partnered to allow importing your transactions into TT as of today at 2:36 CST, 2/24/21? And why is Coinbase still listed on TT as a compatible exchange from which you can upload your CSV file? Please just fix the issue, rather than creating this ludicrous fiasco of forcing your customers to spend more money through a third party to achieve something that is advertised as an available function through TT and Coinbase.
Well, that is a bold faced lie @Cynthiad66. You claim:
"Coinbase no longer supports the direct upload of your CSV file to TurboTax, resulting in an error message for some users.
Coinbase recommends using CoinTracker to calculate your cryptocurrency gains and losses and to access your CSV file."
HOWEVER, the Coinbase website claims:
"Import your Coinbase transactions into TurboTax
Save $15 on TurboTax Premier
Special offer
You can e-file your crypto gains/losses with the rest of your taxes. We’ve partnered with TurboTax to save you $15 on TurboTax Premier, which easily handles cryptocurrency gains and losses. Just click the button to the right and your discount will automatically be applied at checkout."
Having the same issue here. I have no crypto sales, but $58 in Coinbase Earn transactions that would cost $59 to process through Cointracker (+ whatever tax is appropriate). It's a little ridiculous to have to pay that when TT advertises that Coinbase is a partner and that they can import this information.
Yes, we will.
Hopefully we get to make lots of money from this fraudsters.
pls look out for the class action when it comes out so you guys can join in.
Let us teach them a lesson
