Well said!!
You're an idiot, we all already knew that. Like the fine gentleman before me said. Either coinbase fixes there header issue or turbotax has a programmer fix it on there end. No other solution, otherwise the are scamming us. I will not be doing my taxes with turbo tax anymore if after this because the are complicit on this scam, this is a complete scam.
Expert?!? Cmon now did you not read the posts before you?
And you're begging for cheers? You didnt do anything. Get turbo tax to fix there **bleep**.
I wrote a program to calculate my tax 3 years ago, about a week before Coinbase released my tax report. At least the outcome of my program was the same as Coinbase's. Coinbase doesn't provide that information now and wants people to pay for this service.
It was a ~100 line nodejs program that took me 3 evenings to program it. TurboTax should have a solution already. They just need more time to test and verify different cases.
Any update? If not its pretty obvious Turbotax & coinbase are colluding to take advantage of new cryptocurrency loopholes. Not a good look, especially during covid 19 pandemic.
Anyone run into this Cointracker through coinbase has an importer from Coinbase with an export to Turbotax specific format. It took a little digging to find but it's in there.
CoinTracker is not an option. There should not be a need to pay a 3rd party to handle what TurboTax claims they support.
The csv parser and additional gain/loss calculator TurboTax has to code to resolve this should take a developer a few days to complete. This is getting a bit ridiculous on their end. An intern could even knock this out and have staff review and deploy.
Thank you Area51, that did the trick. For anyone wondering how exactly to do it (free if you have 25 or fewer transactions like I did)...
1. Make an account at CoinTracker
2. Link your Coinbase (and if applicable, other exchanges) account.
3. Go to "Taxes" at the top.
4. Go to "Select Tax Plan" and select "Free" (again, only works if you've got 25 transactions or fewer... so TurboTax still needs to fix this to keep others from having to shell out to another company).
5. At the bottom right, there's a section labeled "Tax Reports." Click the tab "Tax Filing Software."
6. Next to "TurboTax Online File," click "Download."
7. Upload this to TurboTax, it should accept it directly.
Again, inexcusable those with more than 25 transactions have to pay a third party service when TurboTax and Coinbase both advertise interchangeability between their services, but... for those of you who, like me, do fewer big trades rather than many small trades, hopefully this takes some weight off your shoulders.
Hey! I too am joining the list of customers needing help from an update on this thread.
@doubletikiethersalad Can you post the headers for the format of your CSV from Cointracker? That might help some reverse engineering on the solution...
@NashayLO I'm getting the same error. I can't access the link; every time i click on it, I get "Access Denied" error.
I also called TurboTax and the person I spoke with was of no help. Is there any way I can get help on this?!
i need help
How can we help you?
Yea this will probably be the last year I use Turbo Tax. Issue still not fixed.
Can you please provide an update? Seems like other TT "experts" have no clue with their posts after yours.
Is there any ETA?
If not, TT customers deserve to know so we can go with other options. Time is running out before TT's reputation is further damaged.
