The e-file reject code IND-181-01 means that you are missing an IRS-issued Identity Protection Pin number (IP PIN). You will need this 6-digit pin number to e-file your tax return.
You should have received the pin number from the IRS in a CP01A letter. If you do not have the letter, you may be able to retrieve the pin number on the IRS website. If that does not work, you can request to have it re-issued. See this IRS link to retrieve your IP PIN or have it reissued:

If you need extra time, filing an extension by April 15, 2026, moves your submission deadline to October 15. But remember any taxes owed are still due in full by the original April 15 date.
