Can't e-file. Unable to locate attachment at / attachment/Form1116ScheduleB.pdf

Duh.

They've been "looking" into this issue for months.

They aren't going to fix it because it is not critical - you can file paper taxes.

TT responses have been and are a joke.

I don't know what version of Turbotax you are using. I'm using desktop deluxe. during the interview process it asked if I had any FTC carryover to which I entered yes. then it went to a screen that allowed entry of the c/o when I previewed the return it was an official IRS form, not a PDF. however, I have not yet e-filed so I don't know if this really works.

I'm surprised no one said anything about this.  from my understanding there is no way to include any PDF document with an e-filed return.

Since TurboTax has decided to throw customers like us under the bus and flat out ignore our inability to file taxes online using their bug-ridden software I have decided to do the following and encourage others to join.

Every day I open an Incognito browser, go to one of major search engines and look up something such as "file my taxes" online. TurboTax then shows up as one of promoted sites (with an ad indication). I then enter that ad and click on one or two links. It takes me about 30 seconds and costs TurboTax a few dollars each time. I've been doing this for a while now and must have cost TurboTax several times the amount I paid for TT21.

Yes, it doesn't help me file my taxes and neither is it going to fix the bug, but it's perfectly legal, it feels good, and it helps reallocate funds from a corrupt and abusive business to other parts of the economy. This is my little way of showing that customer abuse comes with consequences.

Same exact problem. Turbotax fix pls!

Same problem here. I have patiently waited, and every two weeks I tried the updates and resend to no avail. Disappointed that TurboTax would not post an official update themselves, and had to rely on users to go ask and post is disappointing.

So... It's time to move on: I have wasted enough of my time.

1. I will submit my paper amended by snail mail; and

2. Start my research to use a different tax software (I had been using TurboTax for 22 years)

Yes, I ended up filing my 2021 amendment through snail mail in May. Not an ideal solution. My 2019 amendment that the IRS received in March 2021 was just processed last week, so it's unlikely my 2021 amendment will be processed anytime soon. I've been a customer of TurboTax for 30+ years and am seriously considering going to another company next year, as well.

TTax is pathetic. Really pathetic.

THIS issue has existed FOREVER and TT is clueless and / or unwilling to do anything about it. WORTHLESS customer service. Time to move on.

I have a similar issue with a different form.  Form7203.pdf

"We can't e-file your return because we are unable to locate the attachment /attachment/Form7203.pdf.  Please go back and reattach it.  Then try e-filing again."

Hope someone has gotten a solution.

Please help.

Big news for anyone else still monitoring this thread.  I was just able to e-File my amended federal return (with foreign tax credit) successfully.  I'll report back after 24-48 hours when I hear if my return was accepted.

This was somewhat surprising since it came after getting a warning page that e-Filing was closed for the season on October 17.  Perhaps that's not applicable to amended returns.  I filed my amended CA state return long ago, and also made an electronic payment of the amount from my federal amended return.  Since the deadline for actually filing the amended return is long (there won't be late payment fees on a payment already made), I've been holding out to see if the issue would be fixed by the system upgrade mentioned elsewhere in this thread.  I've been retrying every 1-2 weeks with the same error until today, so it seems the upgrade may've finally occurred.

Here's hoping I learn my is accepted and this saga is actually over, rather than finding out that this submission was the result of a different bug.

Update: Within 1 hour I got the notice from Intuit that my amended federal return has been accepted, so I think my 2021 tax saga is over.  The IRS can still get in touch if they think there's a mistake somewhere, of course, so I'll save all my records just in case.  Here's hoping they just sit in a drawer/hard-drive unneeded.

If anyone else is still waiting to eFile rather than having paper filed, go ahead and give it a try again and I hope it'll work for you.

I had this same problem with using TurboTax for my 2021 return.  Now I have the problem with my 2022 return.  TurboTax has not fixed this.

In 2021 I was able to e-file by deleting my FTC carryovers so no Form 1116 Schedule B was needed.  If I do that for 2022 it will cost me a $150 credit.

Any help would be appreciated.

@Philip H are you trying to file your initial 2022 return, or an amendment?

Note I'm not associated with Intuit, just another user who struggled with this issue last year.  I had this issue for 2021, tough as I mentioned above it finally cleared up late last year.  I just filed my 2022 taxes this week successfully, and they included Form 1116 Schedule B, so I was hopeful that the issue is entirely gone.  I haven't tried an amendment yet, though I expect to file one later this year due to some overdue forms.

I still have same issue (Can't e-file. Unable to locate attachment at / attachment/Form1116ScheduleB.pdf)  for my amended 2022 return with latest turbotax Home & Business download on 04/08/2023. Any idea how to fix this issue?

Problem still existed earlier today (Tuesday 04/11/2023) when trying to e-File Federal 1040, CT-1040 (CT resident), and NY  Form IT-203 (Nonresident and Part-Year Resident) together. Eventually solved problem by going back and selecting ONLY the Federal return for e-Filing. After going through all the subsequent filing screens, we successfully transmitted the Federal 1040. Once that was complete, we went back to the beginning of the File Your Return section and chose e-Filing for both CT and NY. Had to walk through all the subsequent filing screens for a third time, though information fields were generally pre-filled. Were then able to successfully transmit CT and NY returns.

Thanks CTTaxes!!  I had the exact same problem on Wednesday 4/12/2-23 and your work-around worked great.

So apparently this bug is due to some interaction between the federal taxes and the state taxes.  It is interesting that my state return is also for New York.
