Can Not e-file a 2024 Federal Return due to Check This Entry error Loop

I am trapped in a loop on the "We Need to Make One More Check" page. I receive a US pension but do not live in the US and the program will not accept this. How do I get around this problem?

@eltibbe , sorry for the confusion -- I thought  we were done.  But seeing that you still have an issue, I decided to try and update my simulation ( of your situation) with a 1042-S  implementation.  There is no direct support for 1042-S in TurboTax. This is because Turbo does not support 1040-NR  ( where you are most likely to encounter 1042-S).

So the nearest equivalent is to enter this income  ( 1042-S , income code 15 --pension) as "other income" -- I entered the Box 2 income ( I used $20,000 as place holder ) with a legend -- "1042-S Box 1 code 15 income". Then under deductions & Credits, I entered the  1042-S, Box 7a  amount as "other Taxes withheld/paid".  I used an amount of $5000 as a stand in.

Passed all the checks in TurboTax -- ready for transmission.

Is this the way you entered the 1042-S essential details or did you use a 1099-R schema ?  How did you do it in earlier years ?

I am using Windows  Home& Business.

@eltibbe , since we cannot see your screen, we have to depend on you posting more information to understand / replicate the situation and see what TurboTax is doing wrong.

    (a) should we assume you are a US person ( citizen/GreenCard ) ?

    (b) what kind of pension ( private, 401(k), Roth , Social Security  or what )?

    (c) Is this your first year reporting pension?

    (d) Which country is your tax-home in ?

    (e) Can you tell which screen  and/or what error is Turbo working on ( the loop sequence ) and if possible  which was the  last screen --- any thing you add  would help us find the place in the program you are in.

Look forward to hearing from you --yes ?

Yes, I am a US citizen.

    The pension is private.

This is the first year I have had this problem (the previous 8 years worked)

    Thailand

It was on the last page before e-filing the return. If I can get past this page the file should be submitted.

The problem appears to be that the check that TurboTax is doing does not like that my Country Code is TH or that my Thai address is shown in box 13c on my 1042-S.

@eltibbe , I just tried  a new return with Thailand as my address --- no issue. I used  a Thai bank interest  ( just because I needed some income ) -- no issue.  I am using windows version of Home & Business but all the windows versions should operate similarly.  I also looked up the code  for Thailand that IRS recognizes and indeed it is TH.

Thus my only suggestion would be to delete the country code on the entry screen for 1042-S and re-enter  TH, making sure there are no "unprinted" characters, spaces etc.

If you are US citizen, living in Thailand , why are they issuing you a  1042-S ?  When I lived abroad for a whole bunch of years back in the eighties, my banks etc. all issued 1099s and not 1042-S.

Is there more I can do for you ?

I have been receiving the Form 1042-S for the last 8 years, but this is the first year that I have had a problem. There does not appear to be a way to bypass this invalid check.  The program will not allow a non-US address for the Form 1042-S even though the address matches the one on the 1040-SR. I have tried both using the check box to import my address from the 1040 and typing in the address but the program will not accept either one, nor does there appear anyway to acknowledge the error & override it.

Ok, I was using the W2 form because I couldn't find the form 1042-SR, so the problem is with that form. I don't understand why importing the address from the 1040 would result in a non-overridable error but switching to the form 1042-S fixed my issue and I wanted to thank you for your patience & assistance.
