Can I file and extension for late filing today?

No. You cannot file an extension after the tax filing deadline

if you are properly due a refund on timely payments, there is no penalty for filing after the due date. if you owe. you are incurring penalties of 5% a month and interest on the amount owed for each of the first 5 months it is late after that the penalty drops to .5% + interest.
