Can I efile state if Federal was "File by Mail"?

Due to QBI deduction, I am forced to "File by Mail" Federal.   Can I efile state?   I doubt it, but I thought I check before printing 50+ pages.

TurboTax msg for State:

E-file is not available because your federal return has not yet been e-filed and is currently set to "File by mail"

No you cannot e-file a state return unless you successfully e-filed a federal return which was accepted.  If you mailed your federal return you will also need to file your state return by mail.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
