Had to pay for parking while having surgery as well as for pre- and post-surgical follow-up doctor appointments. Can those parking costs be deducted as out of pocket, medical-related expenses?

Your medical mileage counts every mile you drove locally as well. All doctors, dentist, eye-care, prescription pickups, all of it counts for medical mileage. Round trip to everywhere.
The parking expenses go in with the medical fees. Just like a hotel for medical care would.
I recommend you take a look through Publication 502 (2019), Medical and Dental Expenses ... and see what else you can find. Band -aids, eye care and so much more can count.
Yes, they would be added to your medical mileage deduction. Medical expenses are only deductible in an amount greater than 7.5 percent of your AGI.
Hello Bsch4477 -
Thank you for responding! You note I would add this to my mileage cost. Should I account for round-trip miles? If it's 35.5 miles one way from my home to the hospital/doctor's office, am I requesting mileage reimbursement for 71 miles total -- or am I allowed for just one way?
