@midnight Brewed Mine was set to manual too. I changed it to automatic and started, then opened TTax2021 to a blank activation screen. Closed. Restarted computer. Confirmed Webclient was running. Opened TTax2021. Same result, a blank activation screen.
Dang. I though you had it. This whole discussion of screen resolution is off base. That is a total work around for a fundamental problem. So far you're the first person to comment (that I've found) and to point to a configuration problem.
Had to change resolution to see activation screen for TT 2020 but this year, TT 2021, the activation screen worked with no need to change resolution. Checked Web Client and it was set to Manual(Trigger start) on my up to date Win 10. As a 50+ year aviation mechanic I went by the rule" If it ain't broke don't fix it" so I left Web Client in manual mode.
Brand new computer. Surface Pro 8 running Windows 11. I've done the following items and the TT Premier 2020 Activation screen is still blank.
1) Dropped scaling to 100%
2) Tried every display resolution available (all 30 of them, including 800x600)
3) Ran as administrator
4) Manually allowed TT through the firewall
5) Turned off firewall
6) Hid the Windows taskbar
7) Verified the Show Pictures option is enabled
😎 Ensured I was running the latest version of the display adapter
Any other suggestions?
Thanks for the reply. By messing with the screen resolution I got the activation dialog to appear, however, it will not allow me to input or past the code.
I changed the scale to 100% as well as the resolution to 800x600. This did not work for me. I then changed the resolution back to the original setting. I finally got the screen to enter my activation code, but it would not let me type anything in the space for it. subsequent attempts with all combinations of scale and resolution continued to give me a blank activation screen. I also restarted my computer after resetting. I'm at my wits end!
Any further suggestions?
Was able to activate by changing resolution to 1400x1050 and typing code (but couldn't see it), Switched resolution to 1366x768 and then could see the code and activate. This software is really a mess. Now I can start the Business 2021 return but it will not let me save it! "File not found. Check the file name and try again". Looks like I will need to force the program to close and try again.
This didn't work for me. I could see the screen after changing the resolution, but it won't let me enter anything into it. Any other suggestions?
After changing screen resolution, minimize the screen, then maximize. I was able to then enter activation code. Convoluted way to run software, but it worked for me.
I changed my resolution, but still had a blank drop down box that said activation with no ability to enter the 16 digit code
I changed the resolution to 600X800. No luck. Changed it to 100% the activation dialog appeared but could not enter the code. So I am lost. I downloaded and uninstalled it it 10 times still no luck.

I ended up with TT support. Shared my screen. Spent half hour changing display sizes until the activation screen accepted the code. The tech was very helpful. The process was bad. TT has been trying to fix this for more than a year.
Finally got the issue fixed. Very positive on the human support. Very negative on the activation software.
I got TT support. The tech was able to use share screen to fix the problem. Basically it was numerous attempts of changing display setting and resolution. going from 600X800, 100% to 125%. recommended resolution and recommended display. Trial and error until the activation screen took the code. Half hour or so. No real strategy or a real answer.
But the tech was patient, knowledgeable and helpful.
It worked. After the activation I was able to go back to my preferred display resolution.
So I cannot help you. Jus get TT to help you. It is a painful process to to get their phone number.
So I will give it to you [phone number removed].
To everyone who got past the activation screen, please check dialog boxes that pop up throughout the program such as help screens. I recall last year that I couldn't pay state taxes on-line due to this very same screen resolution issue (had to send via USPS). We have 60 days to get a full refund and that isn't long enough to discover all the other problems that will make the program difficult to use.
Thx
P.S. I haven't yet endured the agony of messing with screen resolutions so my copy isn't activated.
