Another user posted this fix.  See if it works for you -

  • change your resolution to 800 x 600 (start>setting >system resolution. once it's been changed, your screen size will look very big. REMEMBER your initial resolution setting!
  • launch TT and the activation screen should launch.  copy / paste in your activation code. you should get the 'all set' green check mark
  • change your resolution back to what is was originally.

This solved my blank activation screen issue with 2020 TT Premier downloaded on 12/13/2020.   Thank you very much

Turned out that this is not a screen resolution issue in Windows, so much as it is a screen SCALING issue. Had an instance where scaling cranked up to 200%. Reset scaling to 100% and changed the resolution to a size that was more comfortable (1920x1080 in this case) and everything worked fine.

This fixed my issue. Thanks

Same issue.

In Windows 10, changed the scaling by:

Right click on Desktop --> Display Settings --> Modified Scale and Layout to 100% (was 125%)

Restarted TurboTax.  Activation windows shows correctly.  Activated and reverted the scaling back to 125%.

Thanks!

Do NOT change the Screen Scale and Layout setting back to anything other than 100%. There are other screens in the desktop version of TurboTax that are also effected by screen scaling. This will cause certain buttons and links to be hidden or drop off the bottom of the visible window and become inaccessible, making it impossible to proceed beyond certain points and complete various action. Use the Display Resolution setting to make adjustments to screen/icon sizes.

CargoGod, Thanks for the great advice to stay at 100%. Saved me future problems I'm sure.

Solved, thank you.

I tried to install on a brand new 2021 Dell XPS notebook at its full 1920 by 1200 resolution, but got only a blank activation box.

No problem at 800 by 600.

I previously had no problem installing on an older Huawei Matebook X Pro at 3000 x 2000 resolution and a 200% scale setting. Same install package, same validation code.

(I did not try changing the Dell 125% scale setting, BTW)

I tried all these but it did not resolve my issue. I did however remove the DUET app from my PC and my problem is gone.

screen scaling worked for me.  After 3 days of trying to re-install, and installing ran across this solution.  Intuit needs to resolve this simple issue as it is very frustrating.

Just wanted to post/include a slightly different method for resolving this issue that I found on the webpage link posted by BrandiLO.  The page in includes a different set of options to try for this situation.

Ultimately, I had to use the "Run as Administrator" option (available when you right click the Turbo Tax icon) in order to have things open correctly.  I tried the resolution options mentioned, none of which worked for me by themselves.

All of that said, I do want to include that while the "Run as Administrator" option was what allowed the activation window to open and display correctly... I was in the 800x600 resolution when I opened the application.  However, I think for my situation, it was the administrative privileges that fixed it.
