@rosarioc25 so how did your parents claim you if you don't have an ITIN. If they claimed you, they could have applied for the ITIN with the W-7.....maybe that is the issue????
what do you mean "I have the same problem" - please explain the problem
Hi,
Is the 1040 form from you parents? They should claim you as their dependent, and select "credit for other dependent".
They claimed as a dependent. However when the tax was printed, it does not show the boxes for ODC checked. I reviewed the tax all over again and it does list me as a dependent but it does not check the box for ODC and does not credit the $500.00 credit for me or my sister whom is also applying for an itin.
I am applying for an itin. To be able to have an itin, I need to file a W-7 and be claimed in my parents tax return.
That is the reason of your application rejected, follow the below instruction to prepare your 1040 form.
On your 2021 return put in the "Fake" SSN and be sure to select that it is "not valid for employment." That should make her ineligible for the Child Tax Credit but still eligible for the Other Dependent Credit. Then white out the social security number and mail in the return and W7.
I am not sure if you can resubmit a new form with OCC checked, it will produce a duplicate one.
good luck!
sorry for typo, it should be ODC.
