Anyone else get screwed over by turbotax messing up line 30?

If you did not receive the amount for the third stimulus payment, the IRS may think that you were already issued the third stimulus payment.  Is that what the communication from the IRS states?

At your IRS online account, you can find whether a payment was issued to you that you did not receive.  You can also find this information on your tax transcript.

If you need to trace a payment that the IRS says has been issued to you, mail or fax a completed IRS Form 3911, Taxpayer Statement Regarding Refund.

The Recovery Rebate Credit is a simple math calculation in the TurboTax program but requires input by the Taxpayer.

If you were eligible for four stimulus payments, you should have received 5,600.

How much did you receive?

If the credit on your 1040 showed 2,100, that would indicate you entered 3,500 as received. Is that the total from letters 6475?

The payments were 1,400 each, so unless they were reduced, having received 3,500 doesn't sound right.

Did the IRS report the correct amount on your letters? The IRS made some mistakes issuing letter 6475. You might want to check your IRS online account or your own records to see if the letters were correct or if that is the source of the error.

The TurboTax program asked specifically if you received the 3rd stimulus payment.  If you answered No then the Recovery Rebate Credit for $1,400 for each person on the tax return was entered on the Form 1040 Line 30.

If the IRS removed the Recovery Rebate Credit then they have records which show that the 3rd stimulus payment was sent to you.

Check your IRS tax account for the 3rd stimulus payment - https://www.irs.gov/payments/your-online-account

If you checked your bank account in the March - May 2021 timeframe and there is not a EIP3 payment from the IRS then go to this IRS website for how to start a trace on the payment - https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/questions-and-answers-about-the-third-economic-impact-payment-topic-j-p...

I received the letter 6475 and the amount shown was $3500.

My husband received the letter 6475 and the amount shown was $3500.

Turbo Tax (and I remember) asked me: If I received the letter, 6475 and to enter the amount shown, which was $3500. After, TT asked me: Did ‘John’ (Husband) receive letter 6475 and to enter the amount shown, which was $3500.
I will upload a pic of the letters… (it’s in my work desk) — both 6475 letters state $3500.

One for me and one for husband.

@ruiz-rebecca79  Please clarify - how many dependents did you have?  If you were due more than $7000 in stimulus payments then the system would have inserted the amount that it calculated you were due.

You are correct. I have used Turbo Tax since 1996 after spending 20 years doing my taxes, as well as family member's , by hand. I would get the IRS update booklet each year, study it, and complete the tax forms.

However, for me, this year, 2022 for 2021 taxes, Turbo Tax was disappointing. I gave it a 0 rating. When I entered numbers from 1099 forms and later reviewed my entries, they were wrong. This kept happening. It took me three frustrating days to do my taxes.

In addition to that, there were the fees, one of which I had no problem--$60.00 Defense in case of audit. The $25.00 plus tax, I have paid in the past to transmit each returns. This year, for me, there was the extra $23.11 to pay my federal taxes online and $40.00 to process my State refund.

@ruiz-rebecca79

IRS is going to go by the amounts shown on the letter they sent you, regardless of what you or TurboTax enter.

For Advance Child Tax Credit, you could only have received at most  one half of that total credit in 2021.

The final result will depend on the number of dependents you claim.

TurboTax miscalculated the tax I owed from Lines 24 (total tax) and 32 (total payments and other refundable credits).  Due to TurboTax's error, we owed $23.00, and the IRS said because the amount on Line 32 was wrong, we will not get the rebate recovery.  We did not receive a third stimulus, so we were eligible for the rebate recovery credit of $2800.  TurboTax's error cost us a lot.

Does the IRS website indicate that you were sent less than what was reported on your federal tax return Form 1040 Line 34? - https://www.irs.gov/refunds

If your refund is short $2,800 then that is because you said you did not receive the 3rd stimulus payment and the IRS has records that show you were sent the 3rd stimulus payment so they removed the $2.800 Recovery Rebate Credit that was entered on Form 1040 Line 30.

Go to this IRS website for your tax account to see if the 3rd stimulus payment is entered - https://www.irs.gov/payments/your-online-account
If you are Married Filing Jointly also check your spouse's tax account.

Anyone else get screwed over by turbotax messing up line 30?

yes, I have been on the phone for hours today and prior day, where the IRS hung up, because they are too busy!

I am now sending in documents to show that I did not compute my taxes improperly. But not our state refund is being held up.

Anyone else get screwed over by turbotax messing up line 30?

I can not find the area where I said I received the money. So how can I amend it?

Anyone else get screwed over by turbotax messing up line 30?

if the IRS owed me $845 before line 30, why am I now owing $558? and I do not recall the question, as I can not go back and change it, so which section asks how much you received, and how will this impact my State refund?

If your refund is short $1,400 then that is because you said you did not receive the 3rd stimulus payment and the IRS has records that show you were sent the 3rd stimulus payment so they removed the $1,400 Recovery Rebate Credit that was entered on Form 1040 Line 30.
