"Alternative Family Size" Form 8962

For my health insurance last year I used healthcare.gov. I am doing an alternative calculation on my 2019 return because I married my wife in November 2019.

I am being asked to put in my "Alternative Family Size" on form 8962.

What do I put here?

Really appreciate the help

To trigger the alternative marriage calculation, immediately after entering your form 1095-A, TurboTax will display a page titled Let us know if these situations apply to you. On that page, check the box I got married in 2019.

TurboTax will properly populate your form 8962.

I'm trying to understand the actual form.

On the form, there is a box for "alternative family size".

What would I put in this box and why?

I would assume I would put "1" here since the alternate calculation is only applying to me, since I was married late in 2019 and that health insurance only applied to me in 2019 (not my wife)

I know it can be automatically populated, I just like to know why and was curious if anyone here knew why.

Thanks

If you got married in 2019 and you met a long list of other conditions, you might qualify to use this alternative calculation.

Thanks. I believe I meet the restrictions since we got married so late and she had insurance through her work.

I'm only confused about what "alternative family size" means in regards to all this, which isn't mentioned in the instructions you linked to.

Alternative family size for you would be yourself (1) and any dependents you are allowed to claim for the year. Don't include your spouse or your spouse's dependents.

Thank you so much! Sorry for posting on multiple threads.

My only remaining question, is that I am asked for my "dependent AGI" when filling out my premium tax credit section. Would I just leave this blank? (I do not have any dependents, unless my wife would be considered one, which from what I have read would not be the case)

Thank you again

No, your wife is not a dependent, so you would not have a dependent AGI to enter.
