Same thing happened to me just now. Opened Turbotax after a couple weeks hiatus to continue working on the return, there was an update, as usual, but then my tax2023 file had disappeared, and is nowhere to be found on my hard drive. Previously I had worked on several different times, saving it each time. How annoying....it must be something to do with the update. Thank you, TurboTax.
Yes, this exact thing happened to me today. It updated the desktop TurboTax 2023 software, then asked me to activate the product (again). I thought that was a bug, but did it anyway as it would not let me proceed. When it got past the start-up and updating, I found that it apparently wiped out the saved .tax2023 file from the place I had saved it. Or, perhaps the place I saved it was in a temporary folder, but the only way that would have happened would be TurboTax failed to ask me where to save it and just dumped it in a temporary folder. But I am pretty sure I saved it in a normal folder in my documents. However, it was able to find the document multiple times in the past. But now there was nothing for it to use to continue.
Mine just did the same after a long update cycle. The entire contents on the documents\turbotax folder are gone and I was part way through.
Currently searching my hard drive but not hopeful.
My computer did not find any *tax* files. Turbotax, care to comment? I have to reenter everything now.
I now save a second copy of the tax file to a thumb drive, which will be physically disconnected from my computer if there is an "update." That way the work won't be lost should TurboTax persist in erasing the tax file during one of its many updates.
