 In Finder, click on the applications folder and then press "command and i" at the same time to open the info window.  At the bottom will be the permissions.    System and the administrator user should be read & write everyone else read only.  If the permissions are wrong  they can be changed by clicking the lock.  It will also tell you if you are read & write or read only.

I did this and right next to me it says "Read and Write" . The other two fields (like "staff") are read only.

Still got the problem, but thanks for the input.

RENAME file to add .tax2021, save to DOCUMENTS, save WITHOUT password protection - customer is able to download state ($0.00) 2nd state is additional billing.

I dragged the TT download into the Applications folder appropriately. I was able to transfer 2020 info to 2021 and start entering data. But I cannot save it as it says it is read only.

Also be sure you are trying to save the file to your hard disk of your computer and not to a thumb drive, etc.

I don't use a Mac, but it likely has something to do with configuring your system to give TurboTax "disk access" and configuring read/write permissions.   Read through this entire thread from beginning to end, especially the posts by Champ @macuser_22 earlier in this thread.  Some examples have been given above.   If you still need help after that, hopefully macuser_22 can assist.

"They literally want you to drag it to the "A" directly to the right, within the dialog box itself.    This is a pretty long thread, so I am going to link to a comment in this same thread to see if it helps.   It is the A in the dialogue box and not the Applications Folder it wants you to drag it to.   If you need to speak with someone, I will leave the contact links below - although you can certainly keep trying other threads here in the Community to hopefully resolve your ''read-only'' issues."

Thank you so much!  After multiple times trying to install from CD and then downloading from TurboTax, this worked!  Dragging the "A" directly to the right, within the dialog box itself is the answer.

That fix solved my problem! Mine is a later version, 2023, and I had to add 2033 using the bottom arrow on FULL DISK ACCESS but problem fixed and I am now able to save! Thanks
