I received an email from Turbotax stating that for 2024 tax returns prepared with Turbo Tax Desktop for Mac, macOS Ventura 13 or later will be required since Apple has stated they will no longer provide security updates or support for macOS Monterey 12 as of November 2024. As a result the latest Turbo Tax Desktop products for Mac won't support macOS Monterey 12.
Not being a technical guy, my question is does this issue also pertain to my MacPro which is running the latest version of macOS Monterey 12 or is it solely for desktop software? Thanks.

This would only affect the TurboTax desktop editions where the software is installed on a personal computer. It would not affect the TurboTax online web-based editions.
See this TurboTax support FAQ for the online editions system requirements - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/product-system-requirements/turbotax-onl...
Thank you and just to clarify technical term semantics due to my limited computer skill level, my Mac Pro laptop with the latest OS Monterey 12 software will be able to run the 2024 TurboTax software?
I struggle with terminology distinctions like web based products (for laptops?) versus desktop products.
Thanks again.
The Desktop software (CD or Download) is for all computers either desktops, laptops or notebooks that run full Mac or Windows. So your MacPro will need the new Mac OS to use the Desktop program. If you can't install the Desktop program, you can use the Online version.
If you switch to the Online version you can transfer your 2023 return done in the Desktop program to the Online version. Post back next year if you need help transferring.
If you used the Desktop program before you may notice several differences and not like the online version. It has less features and no Forms Mode. You can only do 1 return. Your return is only saved online so be sure to save both the .tax2023 data file and the pdf file to your computer when you are done. In case you need to amend in the future or if you need a copy to get a loan or something. You might not be able to access your online return when you need a copy.
I was posting at the same time as you. The web based products are the Online version that you go online and log into an account. You can use it on any computer, desktop, laptop, notebook, tablet, phone or mobile device. You can start on one computer and log in from any computer/device at any time. It is not installed on your computer. Your return is only saved on the Turbo Tax servers.
The Desktop program you download and install on your computer. You install it from the CD or by downloading the actual program. Desktop does not just mean for desktop computers. It means the Turbo Tax program you install on any computer (desktop or laptop) as opposed to going online and using the Online version. Do not confuse the download with the Online web version.
The Desktop program you have been using is done offline and you only go online to efile your return and to update the program. For 2024 you can only buy the Download, they won't be selling the CD. Your MacPro will need Ventura 13 to install the Desktop program.
Hope that helps.
Thanks very much; I'm a little smarter because of your help. As I understand it, my MacPro is not and will not be able to run Ventura 13 version because of it's age (purchased in 2018 but I have implemented all upgrades including the most current Monterey version). Are there any MacPro users out there and does this seem correct? What options are there?
If true, this appears to be Apple's way of doing planned obsolescence and is disappointing. Thanks again.
Is Turbo Tax Desktop for 2024 compatible with macOS Sequoia ?
Yes, disappointing. I was considering buying a new Mac, but I can't find an answer to: "Is Turbo Tax Desktop for 2024 compatible with macOS Sequoia ?"
See 2024 System Requirements. Sequoia is supported
https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/tta-system-requirements/
It's out and runs under Sequoia. But Intuit is still too lazy to compile a universal binary. It's still Intel code.
Thanks
This is really sad. Intuit needs to release a native Silicon Mac version.
I installed Sequoia 15.1.1 last night on my 2019 MacBook Pro and can confirm that Turbotax Home & Business indeed works!
Not sure why "edit" isn't working here, but I needed to clarify I installed Sequoia 15.1.1 last night on my 2019 MacBook Pro and can confirm that desktop Turbotax Home & Business 2024 indeed works.
Interesting; as I said when I started this thread I'm not tech savvy so help me understand a bit more. My MacPro is 2017 vintage and I'm being told different stories about whether it can even be undated to Sequoia (sp?) due to it's age. Do you know if it can? How did you obtain the Sequoia program and how much did it cost?
How difficult is it to install? Is the Turbotax program you mentioned 2024 version? I'd like to avoid having to purchase a new Mac. Thanks to all for any input.
