2 state returns

Hi,

I will file 2 state returns because my company took money out for NJ and i live in PA. company is in NJ.

Anyway, does the software handle 2 state returns? or does that cost extra for me. I have deluxe.

I would go through the w2 process twice i assume.

I guess i dont enter in box 16 for the NJ w2 because i should report no income, just tax paid.

Then for PA , i add the box 16 info and no tax paid.

2 state returns

TurboTax Online can handle up to five states on one return. You pay extra for each state.

On the nonresident New Jersey return. TurboTax will ask Did you earn all of your wages in New Jersey? Answer No, I earned some of the $xx,xxx in another state and enter $0 for How much of the $35,000 did you earn in New Jersey.

You can’t e-file New Jersey because must enclose a signed statement with your New Jersey nonresident returns indicating you are a resident of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania will pull in all your income if you file a resident return. You do not have to add a PA line (you can if you want).

Do I answer YES , I made money in states other than Pennsylvania?

2 state returns

In this case you will answer "Yes" you earned money in another state (NJ).  Only because you need to file a non-resident return for NJ due to NJ withholding.

Normally because NJ and PA have a reciprocity agreement NJ would not withhold and you would not need to file in NJ and therefore you would have selected "No" you did not earn in another state.
