Hello.

I have a problem with file 1099-g EWF form from DOL. There is no Box 6 (Taxable grants) in regular Unemployment 1099-g section of Turbotax. If I go through Uncommon 1099-g section I am able to fill Box 6, but I got error on final "completecheck" - "Not Eligible for Electronic Filing, Returnes with a 1099G that does not have unemployment on Line 1". Please help.

To add your Excluded Workers Fund 1099-G information in Box 6, please enter it in Other Common 1099-G Income, rather than Uncommon 1099-G section.

Please follow the steps below to enter your 1099-G:

  1. Open your return.
  2. Click on Federal on the left-hand side.
  3. Click on Income & Expenses.
  4. Scroll down to Other Common Income.
  5. Click Start next to Other Common 1099-G Income.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Just to confirm there would not be an error message for you after input, I did a mock-up return and added Box 6 grant in Other Common 1099-G income and passed Federal Review.

Thank you for your reply.

I have made mistake, of course I went to Income & Expenses and choose Other Common (not uncommon) 1099-G Income, than Other 1099-G Income, than Taxable grant. Box 6 appears, I have filled everything, it is passed Federal Review, but still give me same error on State review - Non-eligible for Electronic filling, Return with a 1099G does not have Unemployment on line 1. And thats true, because EWF 1099-G really doesn't have anything in Box 1, and form in Taxable grant doesn't have this Box 1 at all (but have all other Boxes include Box 6). Please help.

Hello.

How I can do this? I can't put 0.01$ in "Box 1" because there is no "Box 1" when filling in "Other 1099-G Income" section. And there is no Box 6 if go through "Unepmloyment" section. Please help.  I have tried everything already but still receiving same error on completecheck - "Returns with a 1099g that does not have unemployment on line 1". Can anybody suggest other good tax preparation online service?

Go to the Tool Center and see how many 1099-G forms listed there. If there are more than one, delete them and go back to enter the 1099-G in Other Common Income section instead of the section for unemployment 1099-G section.

  1. Go to Tax Tools >> Tools to open the Tools Center
  2. Click on Delete a form
  3. Scroll down the list of forms to locate the 1099-G form(s)
  4. Click on Delete next to the form(s).

It seems as if the New York State return is fine but will indeed have to be filed by mail.

  • To check the error message, I put 49 cents in line 1 since this would round down but would be an entry, to see if it cleared the error. Then I got the message below that if the Form 1099-G was from any other entity than the New York Department of Labor it will have to be paper-filed.
  • I also found the State or Locality issuing the payment field should be blank and just the locality of NYC should be entered.

But this 1099g with taxable grant from NY Department of Labor. And yes this is error whar I get from "completecheck(tm)" So there is no way to file state return with Turbotax? Need to use another online service or file by mail? How to file by mail? Time is coming.

@scrat  When you print the return the file by mail instructions will print on the first page.
