1099-g for EWF (Excluded Workers Fund)

Hello.

I have a problem with file 1099-g EWF form from DOL. There is no Box 6 (Taxable grants) in regular Unemployment 1099-g section of Turbotax. If I go through Uncommon 1099-g section I am able to fill Box 6, but I got error on final "completecheck" - "Not Eligible for Electronic Filing, Returnes with a 1099G that does not have unemployment on Line 1". Please help.

To add your Excluded Workers Fund 1099-G information in Box 6, please enter it in Other Common 1099-G Income, rather than Uncommon 1099-G section.

Please follow the steps below to enter your 1099-G:

  1. Open your return.
  2. Click on Federal on the left-hand side.
  3. Click on Income & Expenses.
  4. Scroll down to Other Common Income.
  5. Click Start next to Other Common 1099-G Income.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Just to confirm there would not be an error message for you after input, I did a mock-up return and added Box 6 grant in Other Common 1099-G income and passed Federal Review.

Thank you for your reply.

I have made mistake, of course I went to Income & Expenses and choose Other Common (not uncommon) 1099-G Income, than Other 1099-G Income, than Taxable grant. Box 6 appears, I have filled everything, it is passed Federal Review, but still give me same error on State review - Non-eligible for Electronic filling, Return with a 1099G does not have Unemployment on line 1. And thats true, because EWF 1099-G really doesn't have anything in Box 1, and form in Taxable grant doesn't have this Box 1 at all (but have all other Boxes include Box 6). Please help.

If your return is ineligible for filing, delete your 1099-G and enter the Box 6 amount as Other Income (that's where it ends up on the tax return, anyway).

  • In TurboTax Online click on Federal on the left column
  • Click on Wages & Income at the top
  • Scroll down to Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C. Start
  • Choose Other reportable income
  • Say Yes to Any Other Taxable Income?
  • In Other Taxable Income, enter a Description and Amount. Your description can be Taxable grant.

1099-g for EWF (Excluded Workers Fund)

Hello.

There is no Box 6 in Other Taxable Income, and no any Box at all. When I enter money from 1099-G EWF here I become to owe huge amount of money, because this amount already reported in Other 1099-G Income. How to be?

Why it so confusing? Looks like NOBODY in Internet doesn't know how to report this 1099-G EWF...

I think you have your 1099-G entered more than once, in multiple places now.    You should only have one entry in the Other Common Income - Other 1099-G section and nowhere else.  Delete all of the other entries.     Click on Federal (left side menu), then click on Wages and Income at the top.    You will see a list of all of the income you have entered.   Scroll down the list and make sure you have your EWF income reported only once.   If and when you see the entry duplicated in another section (probably the unemployment section), delete that entry.   See the screenshot below to confirm that section it should be reported.

I did here already before, but, on review it gives me this rejection on State review:

Non-eligible for Electronic filling, Return with a 1099G does not have Unemployment on line 1. 😖

@scrat You are entering a 1099-G into TurboTax.  But all of the advice you have received says delete the 1099-G and then enter the income without the 1099-G.  You haven't done that yet.

Delete the 1099-G.  Go to the form.  Click the little garbage can next to it.  Make sure it's gone.  If there are 2 delete them both.

There should be no entries for 1099-G.

Now, go down to OTHER INCOME.  It'll ask if you have a form.  Say no.  Then you will type in TAXABLE GRANT and the amount that you received.

If you get the same error message you did not delete the 1099-G.

How do you enter the $780 state taxes withheld on the 1099-G? I entered it in box 11, but the calculation is saying I owe an additional $1000 in state taxes and about $3000 in federal taxes for the grant?  The taxable grant in box 6 is $15,600 and state tax withheld in box 11 is $780.

I've searched and gotten expert help from tax softwares but there seems to be no guidance on how to properly file the 1099-G for the EWF grant.

You can file your 1099-G EWF the way you did as Other 1099-G income.

State withholding entered in Box 11 on Tell Us About Your Taxable Grant transfers over to your New York state return.

You probably owe federal and state tax because you did not have enough tax withheld on your 1099-G. The 1099-G pushed you into a higher tax rate that the withholding rate on the form.

Excluded Works Fund benefits are taxable. See 1099-G Tax Information for Excluded Workers Fund.

1099-g for EWF (Excluded Workers Fund)

After little rest I go back to this frustration taxes.

Ok, I have deleted 1099-G (I actually did it before too, and yes, I am sure nothing there in Income about 1099G or Unemployment). I went to "Other common income"->"Other 1099-G income". I had entered Payer name and address, and amount of money I have received in "Box 6". Then I mark checkbox "Federal or state income tax was withheld on this payment", because on 1099-G I have "Box 11" with state tax amount withheld.

Now: on completecheck(tm) it passing Federal check, but on state check give me error "Not eligible for electronic filling" "Returns with a 1099G does not have unemployment on line 1".

Any other ideas? I am not stupped, I really have tried all variants I can do. I try to file my taxes for month already. Nobody else didn't face with same issue? Nobody didn't receive EWF?..

Hello.

How I can do this? I can't put 0.01$ in "Box 1" because there is no "Box 1" when filling in "Other 1099-G Income" section. And there is no Box 6 if go through "Unepmloyment" section. Please help.  I have tried everything already but still receiving same error on completecheck - "Returns with a 1099g that does not have unemployment on line 1". Can anybody suggest other good tax preparation online service?

Go to the Tool Center and see how many 1099-G forms listed there. If there are more than one, delete them and go back to enter the 1099-G in Other Common Income section instead of the section for unemployment 1099-G section.

  1. Go to Tax Tools >> Tools to open the Tools Center
  2. Click on Delete a form
  3. Scroll down the list of forms to locate the 1099-G form(s)
  4. Click on Delete next to the form(s).
