Help needed!
I am in a precarious position. I used a CPA for my tax returns this year and because it was too close to the deadline I asked him to file for an extension. I have repeatedly asked him to share a confirmation/acknowledgement from IRS and NY/NJ State of the extension. But he has still not shared. He has a very casual attitude and is asking that I should trust him. He has also said that because I am due a refund, I don't need to worry about an extension.
I am really worried about his professionalism and I am sure I don't want to work with him. I plan on simply using Turbotax to file for my extension and then find a more reliable CPA to do my returns.
If my CPA has filed for my extension, can I file it again on Turbotax just for my piece of mind? I really don't know whether this guy has done it or no so I don't know if there will be a problem if he has in fact done it.
Is there a way I can check if my extensions have been filed?
Please help

In your case there is nothing wrong with re-filing the extension. If the extensions were filed and accepted, they will reject (because you will have an accepted extension already). If the extension is accepted, that would be a good clue that the CPA still has not gotten it in.
Filing an extension is a free service with TurboTax.

No there is not.

If you owe additional tax, that must be paid by May 17. A extension is just to file not, not to pay. If you are getting a refund then there is no penalty for filing late (the penalty is you don't get yiur refund until you file).
Thanks. Is there going to be an issue if I double file an extension? Once through my CPA and another through turbotax (because I don't trust my CPA). He is totally unprofessional

I don't think so. If double, your extension request will probably reject because there is already an extension.

Thank you for your reply. A few follow up questions -
1. If the extension filed by me gets rejected (because my CPA already file). Does that in any way lead to future tax problems, increased scrutiny in my account or increase in chances of audits?
2. Does IRS/NY/NJ tax authorities share any acknowledgement/confirmation that your extension has been filed and accepted? My tax advisor is now telling me that they don't share anything
3. My CPA is telling me that I am due a refund from all the tax authorities so I don't need to worry about filing an extension. In fact, even if I don't file an extension I should be fine. Is this true??

#1 no.
#2 If NY/NJ requires a extension then you must file it with them separately.
3# I answered that above. (The only benefit of an extension if you are getting a refund, is if you have some other corrective action (like removing an excess contribution form a IRA) that must be done by the due date, or extended due date.)
Hello,
On Turbotax, I am owe NJ $2300 but my tax advisor told me that I owe NJ only $100, He shared a NJ - 630 voucher which I used to pay $100 online.
If I go through turbotax and pay the $2300, what happens?

You cannot pay "through TurboTax" unless you actually file and have it debited to you bank account, but to file state, Federal must be filed and accepted first.
You can probably pay state tax direct to the state through the states website, most states have a direct pay method. If you do that, then when state is finally filed the payment is add to taxed paid on the tax form to get credit for it.
