Why did I buy your return program if I still have to pay to file my state returns?

Did you purchase the Desktop (CD/Download) software?  If you did, Deluxe and higher editions include one free state tax preparation program.   However, there is an additional charge to e-file a state return.  You can always print and mail your state return.

Why not make it clear that there is an additional fee to E-file?!!

The state e-filing fee when using the Desktop (CD/Download) platform can be viewed by clicking on the hyperlink that says, "1 state download" on the webpage.  That opens up the window showing the e-filing fee for your state return.  I'm sharing a screenshot in this post.

You can always print and mail your state return for no charge.

WHAT A RIPOFF. I PAID ENOUGH FOR DELUXE WHICH STATED IT INCLUDED ONE STATE RETURN. NEVER SAID YOU NEED TO PAY $25 EXTRA TO EFILE THE STATE RETURN. DON'T YOU THINK THAT SHOULD BE MADE CLEAR BEFORE IT IS PURCHASED?

TurboTax is not responsible for state e-file fees.  The software to do the preparation is included in the price of TurboTax with the stated limit for the number of different states allowed without an additional charge.  Every state that has an income tax has different rules that can always be obtained from the state tax authority.  New residents should always check the state they are moving to or working in to find out the individual requirements.  In addition to using TurboTax for well over 20 years I worked for them for one tax season about 10 years ago.  Things have undoubtedly changed since then.

@JackFrost I do believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that the state e-filing fee is a TurboTax fee.  The additional e-filing fee is not present in the Online platform, but only in the Desktop (CD/Download) platform.

Was going to ask why I had to pay to e-file my state return when your advertising says "one free state return". Saw the answer to the previous person who asked the same question. I think your advertising is deceptive and you should spell out that you will still get hit with a $24.99 plus tax charge. I've used TurboTax for over 20 years but think I'm looking elsewhere next year.

Checkout the thread on ‘undisclosed state efile charges’.

It only takes seven people with the same problem which can give substantial rise to same common issue — in other words many others were also deceived by the state filing undisclosed charges

I live in one of the few states with no state income tax.  I was aware of the fees during the season I worked at a call center for TurboTax.
