Hi, I'm using the Desktop TT. On the Deductions and Credits page my 2023 Other Income Taxes is way too high, by hundreds of thousands of dollars. On the Tax Payments Worksheet form the amount of federal, state and local taxes from my W2 is correct. I don't know where this large number is coming from. The Deductions and Credits page displays my 2022 Other Income Taxes and it's a lot smaller--although it also appears to be incorrect, but only by tens of thousands of dollars. I never noticed this before. Is this a problem? Thank you!

My W2 Box 14 lists the wages for which specific flat state and local tax is being calculated. Last year TT for Windows was smart enough to not include this as tax paid. This year TT for Max is including this amount as tax paid (indeed making it seem that I paid more in tax than I made). If I delete these two Box 14 wage rows, then everything appears correct. Will it be a problem to not include these two rows when I submit? Or is there a box I failed to click to not include these some other work-around? Thank you.
Typically, items listed in box 14 are informational only. In the rare case they are needed elsewhere on your return they typically must be entered manually where they belong. TurboTax has listed the most common entries that need a place in your return and when you select those box 14 categories the amount will be taken to where it belongs on your returns.
It sounds like you may be selecting the "Other deductible state/local tax" category which would indeed add those amounts as taxes paid. It would appear the entries should be "Other (not classified)" which will not update any other return areas. If you do not add them to your box 14 entries; that will work as well.
From your post those entries may be useful (and already be used) in their respective boxes on your W2, State income (box 16) and local income (box 18).
