Official COVID-19 (Coronavirus) stimulus payment thread

Hello! I was able to use Turbo Tax by Intuit last week, put $ 1 down where it had said income as instructed. Soon got an email from Turbo Tax that the IRS had accepted my return, not positive however that the IRS recognized it as my input of banking information for Stimulus only. I only saw where it said no refund due, as if I were filing a normal tax return. Some people on YouTube had said for typical non filers such as those who only get SSI to file through the free Turbo Tax site. It's been a week, still have no news, and when I go on to the freefillableforms.com link from the IRS website I only get "go back to step 2" error, and can't file there. I guess that means that the IRS indeed has my bank info and other stuff already and sees it as a duplicate submission. Can't reach anyone at the IRS , or Turbo Tax without paying a premium to speak to a CPA. Don't know if that helps or not. Good Luck.

If I owed taxes, e-filed, and paid my taxes via electronic debit; does the IRS have my bank account information to send the stimulus money to ?  Have not seen a clear answer on this anywhere.

This could be subject to change but from what I have seen the IRS is only doing direct deposit of the stimulus payments based on the direct deposit information of your refund.  I have not seen anything to indicate they will use the debit payment information.

Does anyone know if the stimulus check that a non-custodial parent who owes LOTS in back child support will go to the custodial parent? Or does a check just not get generated for the non-custodial?

Official COVID-19 (Coronavirus) stimulus payment thread

I would presume that if the support owed is greater than the $1,200 that the payment would be garnished, but if less than that amount is owed that the non - custodial parent would get a stimulus for the remaining balance. According to an article on USA Today that I'd found through Google Search the headline had said " Behind on Child Support? You won't get a stimulus check". It looks like if there is a remaining balance a check would be issued for that to the non - custodial parent. The CARES act doesn't suspend child support arrears.  Hope that helps.

Oof, I’m owed way more than $1,200! I guess I’ll find out in either a few days or a few months!

Based on my 2018 tax return, I was not eligible for a stimulus payment because I was claimed as a dependent on my parents return.   However, on my 2019 return I filed on my own and am no longer being claimed on my parents return (I unchecked "someone else can claim me on their tax return"), and I now meet the criteria for a stimulus payment....but... I just filed my return today on 4/14, did I miss the cutoff?  Has the IRS already flagged me as not eligible based on my 2018 return?

Any one that used Turbo Tax card must update the IRS with bank info I just did it here is the link https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment

When you enter your info it will tell you you are eligible for payment but no bank info on file please update to get payment

I'm going to go with no it doesn't seem to affect your payment processing.  I did the same thing for my federal return this year and I just got a notification from my bank that the correct amount of my stimulus check has been direct deposited to my account.

I'm going to go with yes you will still get your stimulus check as a direct deposit.  I did the same thing for my federal return this year and I just got a notification from my bank that the correct amount of my stimulus check has been direct deposited to my account.  I may be a sample size of just one but I'm going to lean towards this being a good sign for others in the same situation.  Hope that helps!

To answer my own question, just in case people are looking for this exact answer, yes the funds will be properly direct deposited into your bank account.  So filing with TurboTax and having the fee for the filing subtracted from your federal return, meaning it goes thru a 3rd party, doesn't seem to have affected the IRS properly sending you your stimulus check via direct deposit.  As I have replied to others asking the same thing, I am a sample size of one but it is a good sign nonetheless.

What happens if I have no balance due and no refund due? I will still receive a stimulus check, but how do I complete the direct deposit information on the irs website with having nothing due?

Official COVID-19 (Coronavirus) stimulus payment thread

Go to the website www.irs.gov/coronavirus/economic-impact-payments on or after April 17, 2020.  If you go under the tab "Non-filers", then "Enter Payment Info Here" tab to submit financial info for payment.  It says SSDI, Railroad retirement or Survivor Benefit receivers do nothing.  Payment will be direct deposited to the financial institution already on file for those benefits.  (If you get a paper check, I would go online and enter the account info for faster payments- paper checks are supposed to take up to several months, so they say).  The estimated pay date listed is mid-April - May and I'm assuming that is for those with direct deposit.
