for accuracy. How would I know how to do that? That is why I’m using turbo tax.
So assuming the number is correct and you proceed through the rest of the state questions, when you run the final check you receive the error message (title of this thread) that says something is wrong.
Still Getting This Error message. It seems that the issue is both TT's and the state of CA's fault. This error prevents me from filing on time and it's an endless loop. I get the same error on the desktop version (which I downloaded in an ill-advised attempt to skirt this issue in the online version). This may be my last TT year. HRB is beginning to look real promising with their walk-in office just two blocks away.
I've followed the link but there is no where to sign up for update notifications.
Same story, same problem. But cant we simply mail it in? Or do we need to wait for TT to fix this? I am skeptical on the timeline.

I am from NY and I am encountering the same issue. I cannot file my taxes. I have been using TT for a long time and this is the first time they messed up. I am thinking about using a different software and getting a refund from TT. I have lost more that 3 hours figuring out what is going on and have been with Help Desk and they do not have a clue
Getting the same error for CA return. Had two 1098 forms in 2021. If I combine into one form the info like origination date and principal balance will be wrong. What can I do to fix?

I was having the same issue. I clicked on the forms button and found NYS form IT-196. I clicked on the Quick Zoom to Deductible Home Mortgage Interest Information. I noticed that the End of Year Mortgage Principal line was blank. I got this information from my 1098 interest statement from my mortgage lender. This seemed to take care of the issue and I was able to file my NYS taxes.
Disclaimer! I'm not sure if this was the right approach, but it seemed to work for me.
@mruhl165 thank you so much for pointing this out.
I addition, I had to update the same form "Ded Home Mort" on Part 2, line 2 total amount to be the same as the total amount on line 1 part 2. Line 1 gets imported from the Federal Return. Line 2 is recalculated using some limits.
I hope that TT pays attention to fix it ASAP. We should be able to use the Step by Step data entry and not having to figure out this forms.
