Hi,
I used TurboTax Home and Business for Mac. I filed my extension for 2019 taxes and made a payment directly on the IRS website in July. So the extension wasn't filed through TT but there was a form 4868 generated. I have checked and double-checked that my 2019 estimated taxes and the payment for 2019 taxes with the extension are all within TT, but I'm not getting credit for the payment with extension. The numbers are within TT but they differ from what I get when I run it all with Excel. The payment with extension isn't in the calculation. Not sure what to do. Any advice?

did you enter the extension payment on the right line in TT. TT assumes that the payment is not made so the 4868 amount means nothing. the payment must be entered on the payments worksheet on the line for extension payment. then it will appear on schedule 3 line10.
Where did you enter it? Is it on the wrong line? For 2019 Federal Extension payments should be on schedule 3 line 10. And go to 1040 line 18d.
You can type estimates paid in the search box at the top of your return and click Find and it will give you a link to Jump To the screen where you enter Extension Payments.
To enter the amount you paid with an extension (including state extension) go to
Federal Taxes (or Personal for desktop H&B version)
Deductions and Credits
Then scroll way down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid
Other Income Taxes - Click the Start or Update button
Next page second section Payments with Extension
Either Visit All or Click Start or Update by the extension you paid
Pay attention to which year you are entering for a State Extension payment. A prior year state extension payment is also deductible on the federal return so be sure to enter it here.
The strange thing is that even though I entered the amount in the interview section under 'payments with extension', it wasn't using that amount. On Schedule 3, it was entering the amount of my 2018 refund I applied to 2019 (even though that was entered in the correct place too.). I was able to adjust the amounts on the worksheets so that it accurately reflects the amount of withholding, estimated payments, 2018 refund applied, and the payment I made with the 2019 extension. I triple checked where I entered it in TT and it was all in the right place..
It's strange. I had entered the amount correctly under "payment with 2019 Federal extension" but it wasn't using that amount. I was able to adjust it in the worksheet so now the amounts are correct on my 1040. Thanks.
Is it ok now? You got the right amounts on schedule 3 lines 8 & 10? https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040s3.pdf
Yes. Schedule 3, line 10 now has the correct amount. Thanks for your help.
