Non-Standard option isn't showing up for W2. I'm trying to enter a Form 4852. According to Turbo Tax site I should get an option after entering in W2.

It does not show up on the screen directly following the W-2 input screen. It shows up a few screens later. Please follow the steps below to return to the Wages & Income section and mark your W-2 as a nonstandard form.

  1. Log in and open your return
  2. Click the Federal tab on the left side of the screen
  3. Click the Wages & Income tab
  4. Click the Edit/Add box beside the W-2 and click Edit. (you should have entered your information just as you would a normal W-2)
  5. Click to continue past the next three screens.
  6. Select Substitute Form on the next screen titled "Do any of these uncommon situations apply to your W-2?"

How to fill out a substitute W-2 (Form 4852)

If you can't get your W-2 before the tax deadline, you can still file using Form 4852 (also known as a substitute W-2).

Note: If you use a substitute W-2, be sure to keep a copy for your records, just like you would a W-2.

Here's how to fill out Form 4852:

1. Visit the W-2 area of TurboTax and choose "Work on my W-2 now."
2. Enter the employer ID Number (EIN) if you know it. Leave it blank if you don't.
3. When we ask for your W-2 info, enter all the info that should be on your W-2 if you had actually received it. You can use your pay stubs to estimate your earnings and total taxes paid (federal, state and local). Because you don't have your actual W-2, you just need to use the best information you have available (pay stubs, bank statements, etc.) to fill out as much of the Form as possible.
4. After you're done filling out your W-2 info, you will get to "Do any of these uncommon situations apply to this W-2?" Select the checkbox "Substitute form -- I didn't receive a W-2 from my employer and need to complete a substitute form."
5. Then we will ask you to confirm you want to complete form 4852. Select Yes if you are ready.
6. Next write out an explanation of how you figured out your wages and taxes paid (i.e. I used my last pay stub or my most recent bank statement).
7. Then describe the steps you took when you tried to get your W-2 from your employer, like I called my employer on (insert date).

Hello,

I provided a picture to the first response. I do not have that option to select the box. Here are my options. This was the point I was trying to create when I created this topic.

Hello,

As I stated in our prior post I do not have the option to check ""Substitute form -- I didn't receive a W-2 from my employer and need to complete a substitute form." I linked the following picture in my prior post for reference. Annotation 2020-02-05 105622.png

You will need to delete your entry for the W-2 and then re-enter it without including the Employer Identification Number (EIN) or Federal ID Number in order to see the "Substitute Form" option. Please be sure to write down your W-2 information or take screenshots before you delete it in case you don't have a written copy.

To delete your W-2, click on the trash can to the right of your W-2. (Note: You must delete the W-2, you cannot just delete the EIN) Then re-enter it without including the EIN or the state ID number. Click Continue until you get to the screen "Do any of these uncommon situations apply to this W-2?"

Since I don't received the W2 and also don't know the EIN of the company that I worked, I have followed the steps for 4852. But it doesn't allow me to do e-file and it is asking me to enter the EIN for e-filing. Can you please help me to do e-filing or let me know whether paper filing is the only way for my scenario to file the tax return?

@msenmurugan

You're correct -- you can't e-file your return if you're including Form 4852.

Unfortunately, paper-filing is your only option.

Please see the TurboTax Help article How do I file a substitute W-2 using Form 4852?for more information.
