Non filer for 1st and 2nd stimulus checks mix up

Back when the 1st stimulus check was being sent out, I was eligible and did the non-filers tax form. I ended up making a mistake on it and needed to do an amended tax return, which did not process / complete until about Dec of 2020. I did the online Turbo tax form and it said I able to get the $1,200 credit for last year. Now that the 2nd one came out, I realize that I am not going to get it direct deposited or mailed a check because of my tax amendment mix-up.

That makes sense because it was a big mess when they initiated it. Anyways, I never could find an option for requesting the 2nd / $600 payment on the Turbo tax online form. Is this something that Turbo tax needs to update with the software in order to enter it in? I have asked other people online and they said that I would be able to do it, but they did not mention what I had to do to enter it in.

All I can think of besides the software being updated is to go in and speak to someone who can do my taxes. Just seeing if anyone has any idea one what I might do to fix this. Thank you.

Non filer for 1st and 2nd stimulus checks mix up

just file a 2020 tax return (do the free version) and it will work itself out and get you both stimulus payments on that return.

the software currently isn't programmed for the 2nd stimulus payment but give it a few weeks,

in effect the 2020 tax return is to be used for 'non-filers' - there is nothing separate this go round.

You should file with whichever status if best for your normal tax return. MFS disallows many things and is not usually recommended.

When you file your 2020 return, there is a section where you enter what you received and the program will determine any money you may be owed and add it to your refund.

The IRS no longer has a procedure for non-filers to receive their stimulus payments.

If you have not received one or both of your stimulus checks, you will receive your payment in the form of a Recovery Rebate Credit on line 30 of your 2020 Federal tax return when you file.

TurboTax will compare your one or two stimulus payment amounts to the computations within TurboTax.  The computations within TurboTax are based upon the information that you have entered into the tax software.  If you are due an additional amount, it will be issued as a Recovery Rebate Credit (RRC) on line 30 of the 2020 1040 tax return.

In TurboTax Online, you are prompted to input stimulus check 1 and stimulus check 2 information under Review down the left hand side of the screen.

You can access your stimulus check choices by following these steps:

  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Federal.
  • Across the top of the screen, click on Other Tax Situations.
  • At the screen Let’s keep going to wrap up.  Click on Let’s keep going.
  • At the screen Let’s make sure you got the right stimulus amount, click Continue.
  • At the screen Did you get a stimulus payment? you can update your stimulus check entries.

OK did you put in an address change?  You may need to see if the third payments was issued and input correct information.  Use the link below to inquire.

You can fix it.

For 2020 you need to use the 'Federal Review' tab at the top and answer the questions about the stimulus payments you received and any remaining of the first and second economic impact payment (1EIP or 2EIP), i.e. stimulus, will be included on the amended tax return. If you did not do that when you originally amended the tax return, then you should review the amendment and then possibly do a second amendment for that tax year.

The recovery rebate credit (RRC), which is was was used for this entry on the 2020 tax return would be shown on line 30, Form 1040.

The third economic impact payment (3EIP) is handled in the same way on the 2021 tax return. This stimulus was $1,400 for each person on the tax return assuming you qualify.
