No Mortgage Interest Credit Form 8396 & TT won't allow filing without it.

I do not qualify for Mortgage Interest Credit.  I have no Form 8396. I selected in Turbotax: [Federal Taxes] => [Deductions& Credits] => [I'll choose what I work on] => [Mortgage Interest Credit Certificate] [Update] => [No] to "Do you have a Mortgage Credit Certificate?" => [No] to "Do you have a prior year carryover of the mortgage interest credit?"  Still, when I run the [Smart Check] it shows the Form 8396 and insists I enter the "Mortgage Credit Certificate Number" and "Issue Date." This is the first year in about 2 decades I have a refund due! I retired at the end of 2021 and my income decreased a lot.  I have NEVER had a Form 8396 issued.  Yet Turbotax won't allow me to file until I complete this form I have never been issued.  Arghhh!  Please help...  THANKS.

Have you tried to delete the form? Please see this TurboTax FAQ for assistance in deleting your 8396 form. If you want to fill it out moving forward, you can make entries directly on the form when you use the desktop version of TurboTax. If you are using the online version and want to switch to the desktop version you can download your tax file to your computer by using the Tax Tools menu option and then Tools, then Save your 2022 return to your computer. Use the Forms menu option and then Open Forms  and type in 8396 to bring up the form.

THAT WORKED!  Thanks much.  To finish the thread for others, I was working in the desktop version of Turbotax Deluxe. I went into [Forms] (upper right icon) then clicked on the "Form 8396" which had a red (!) beside it.  I then clicked [Forms] from the menu and chose [Delete Form 8396] from the menu.  Then, I clicked [Step-by-Step] (upper right icon), ran the [Review] and my taxes look ready to file!  No more errors!  Hooray! Thanks again!
