No CD available for tax year 2024

The problems are even bigger than no longer offering a CD.  A customer can no longer even buy a key-code product at a retail store. The only option is purchasing a membership to a warehouse outlet or opening an online account at a retailer to download. And on top of all that, another hefty price increase on the heels of the prior two years' increases. The combination of all these decisions is without question going to have negative repurcussions, and any notion of reversing things in the future will be futile once customers have moved on to another product/manufacturer.

No CD means that I'll never use TurboTax again. The last thing I need is for my income data to reside in the cloud on one of Intuit's non-secure servers. With a CD, my data only lives on my super-secure hard drive on my computer.

@martidub You are misunderstanding how the technology works.   Downloading the software for desktop software does not mean that your tax return is stored online.   With the desktop software, your return will still be stored ONLY on your own hard drive or any backup device you use like a flash drive.

You can download the software and work on your return even disconnected from the internet.  But as ALWAYS (even when you used to use a CD) any updates and the state software programs must be downloaded via the internet.  Your data is stored only on your own hard drive.

If you really want a CD you can purchase one for $10 after you pay for the download and have your license key.

Technology is changing and moving ahead.   Most newer computers do not have disk drives.  The other tax software companies have eliminated CD's and are only providing downloads.

@martidub   Yes you can still use the program off line.  Your return is only saved on your computer.  The download is exactly the same as the CD.  It's just the method to install it.

Since you now have to log into an Intuit Account when you first install it, all your downloads and licenses are listed there (even if you bought it from somewhere else) so if you need to install it again or install on another computer, even on the other operating system (Windows, Mac) you can download it again.

But even if you have the CDs you won’t be able to reinstall 2020 or prior. They only support the last 3 years. And the License Code started in 2019. So 2019 and 2020 needs to connect to Turbo Tax to verify the License Code. But they only support the last 3 years. So you can’t install and activate 2020 and prior (then add a year going forward).

I also purchased from Amazon in the past and they mailed the CD to my house in Germany.  Also if you read the fine print on using the Turbo Tax Software posted on their website, it only states use is not allowed in countries with export control restrictions, Russia, North Korea, etc. but not for Germany.

JAA08, did you buy the CD from Amazon because they wouldn't let you download it, or just because you preferred a CD? And how about this year, when there is no CD? I would have preferred to download it, but their web site refused. They would only sell me the CD (in the good ol' days when it was available). I assume that in the countries with export restrictions, they wouldn't sell the CD either.

I bought the CD because I preferred to have it as a back-up in case I had computer issues. Amazon had a good price and would ship it to my house in Germany.  Now that the CD is no longer available and trying to buy online from Amazon didn't work due to my address, I tried to buy direct from Turbo Tax and was having a similar problem. TT require an address and the only 2 options are US and Canada and this field is mandatory.  In the fine print of their SW it says it is not for sale in restricted countries (i.e. North Korea, Iran. etc.) but this is not te case for Germany.

I agree. I always bought the CD at Amazon and had it shipped to my house in Germany with no problem.  As it also seems that I cannot buy directly from Intuit as well, I must find another solution to do my 2024 taxes.

Has anyone had any experience with Expatfile?  It is the first company that I get when I Google Turbo Tax.  It seems to be an online version similiar to Turbo Tax trageting Expats-  It has lots of good reviews online but you never know how many are real despite the Trustpilot ranking.
