For me at least, the problem isn't downloading, or saving my returns to .pdf, I've always done that. It is the fact that for 23 years of using Turbotax, I've never needed an Intuit account until now. So we now provide them, willingly I might add, with our personal info (email, phone numbers, possibly more) and trust they don't get hacked or sell it. Just another potential avenue for loss of privacy. The fine print changes all the time.
Was just about to buy in-store. Noticed no CD. Put the empty box back and will research other offerings before choosing what to use. Lots of cheaper or free options out there!
@Scott Ott Just so you know----the other software companies have eliminated CD's so you are not going to find one that offers a CD. They are all offering only downloads. With TurboTax, after you have purchased the download and have your license code, you have the option to order a CD for $10.

Better to just burn a CD if you have the equipment, or copy it to a thumb drive. The damage is already done, Intuit has all your info by the time you buy a CD. That's my peeve, too many companies with my information.
Thanks. I have free software access via a financial institution. I'll work out the differences then decide. The cd was the main thing keeping my loyalty for over 15 years. Cutting the cd has stopped me procrastinating about evaluating other options.
Also it felt odd picking up a box in a store where the product was a download. At least I got a walk out of it.
Finally, since there is no CD I expect a discount, not a $10 penalty to get a CD.
I totally agree with you. In Feb 2025, I had bought a 2024 TurboTax online from eBay (no CD) and started doing my 2024 tax return in March. But suddenly, my laptop (running on Windows 10) died and I was not able to logon to my computer at all. Went to Canada Computers for help, but the laptop could not be fixed without replacing it with a new hard drive. So I bought a new laptop with Windows 11 and tried to download TurboTax onto the new computer with the same code given to me before, but it wouldn't work because this new laptop does not have the same serial number as the old laptop. Yesterday, I bought a new copy of 2024 TurboTax Standard from Costco for $42 which is $2 cheaper than Walmart. But this new TurboTax does not contain a CD. I'm so disappointed.

TurboTax Standard is a Canadian TurboTax product. This is the USA community forum. Did you mean to post here in this thread in the USA community forum? If not, here's the Canadian TurboTax community forum:
