You need to review your federal tax return, Form 1040. You should see how the tax refund or the taxes owed were calculated. Do you see any errors on the Form 1040 for either income or taxes withheld or taxes paid.
Taxes owed are on the Form 1040 Line 37. A tax refund is on the Form 1040 Line 35a.
Do you have an overpayment on 1040 line 34? Or does that say zero? If you have an amount on line 34 did you accidentally say to apply the refund to next year on line 36? Or where are you seeing zero?
