My 2023 Tax Return Rejected Twice

IRS rejected my Tax Return via TurboTax twice with no apparent reason.  I carefully reviewed my return after logging on and using my PIN.  I triple checked every entry and all were correct.  The first time it was rejected I found I incorrectly entered my wife's driver's license expire date was 06/1930 instead of 06/2030, so I corrected it and re-filed.  Simple typo.  I then re-filed after carefully checking everything and it was again rejected with no apparent reason.  How can I find out the reason it was rejected?  TurboTax does not state the reason.  Why?

Well, I ordered a paper 1040 form and will juts fill it out and mail it to the IRS.  TurboTax begins to irritate me.  I search for a reason IRS rejected my return and TurboTax loops around with nonsense.  From now on I'll just do it the ancient USPS way.

Was it for AGI?

Your 2022 AGI might not be in the IRS system.   Try using zero instead.

If filing with zero is rejected then file again but select the option that you did not file last year.  The IRS does not see that question and it will allow you to e-file with no AGI question.

If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.

ANNND...the rejection could be just a part of the IRS computers being fouled up in their testing process.  which is why they are just testing now...not officially processing tax returns.    One year where people filed early ... their files were accepted, then were required to re-e-file a few weeks later due to some IRS computer problem that had nothing to do with the software providers.

Only a few test files are being processed by the IRS now....somehow yours got pulled in (luckily or unluckily depending on your state of mind),

Wait until after the 29th of January, when the IRS claims they will "Officially" start processing tax files....and then re-e-file then.

_____________

Opinion: Never file before the first week in February...too much can go wrong that has nothing to do with you.

Two things.

1) As of this date, Jan 19, the IRS has stated they will not start processing efiled returns until Jan 29. https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/2024-tax-filing-season-set-for-january-29-irs-continues-to-make-improve...

2. If you received a reject message, then than message has a reason or reject code in it. Without that reason or code, kinda makes it hard to help you here.

Thanks, I now remember reading that somewhere either her or the IRS web page.  Oh well, we'll see.

Understand that the IRS (not TurboTax) has things set up to where after 5 rejects, you can not e-file. You have to choice but to print, sign and mail the return after that.

My 2023 Tax Return Rejected Twice

I think II used my 2022 AGI and forgot to get a new AGI PIN for 2023.  This morning, I got a new AI PIN, on-line, and fixed my return, so maybe just maybe, it will be accepted.  Something I read concerning the AGI PIN confused me, so I just left the 2022 PIN and went on.  Since I get no refund nor owe the IRS anything I really do not m=need to submit a return, but do anyway.   Assuming the IRS is not confused, and my return is not too early and anything else in their unknown rules my return has my 2023 AGI PIN and everything is correct in the boxes it should go through this time.

It makes no sense why a person who an engineer and scientist, was for 42 years, cannot understand the IRS, but it did confuse me.  Maybe they need to require someone who studied English literature to write their instructions.

Finally, my return was accepted.  I was using the wrong AGI PIN.  Maybe a reminder would have helped to get a new AGI PIN for 2023 and not use 2022.  Getting slow in my old age.
