Hello, I received two 1099 R forms for 2024. Both have the same withdrawal amount, same account number, and neither of the forms are corrected forms. One of the forms have a taxable amount, federal tax withheld amount but with a different distribution number box. The other form does not have a taxable amount, does not have a federal tax withheld amount and the distribution number box is different. When I added both forms to my tax, it says that there is a duplicate form 1099 R form with the same account number. It wants me to delete one so the IRS does not send it back to me. What should I do?

I suggest you contact the Broker or Agent that issued the 1099-R's

I contacted my retirement company, and they said to go ahead and enter both forms in even if they have the same account number and withdrawal number. The distribution box numbers are different and one has a taxable amount and a federal withdrawal amount. 🙂
If the software complains, you can probably remove the account number from one of the 1099-R forms. That account number isn't really necessary.
But, of course, the software might complain for a different reason. That could depend on what the Numbers are for box 7, and/or what the box 1 values are. If that happens, you might need to provide more details about the box 7 numbers, and maybe box 1 values.
