Moving states

Hello,

When moving from one state to another you will need to file a tax return for each state.

For each state you will file a part-year resident return putting in the date you lived in each state.

You will then aportion your income to each state that it was earned in, If you continue to work for the same employer in both states make sure you notify them of the move so the can adjust the state for the proper withholding of state taxes.

There will be no affect on your federal taxes, just make sure you use the current address when filing.

Each state will have different tax laws.  Some states do not have a state income tax.  Turbotax can handle all state taxes and will provide guidance for you.

If you move during the tax year, you may have to file part-year returns in each state you have lived in.
