Missing 2021 Form 1116

Hi annajoe803:

Thank you for letting us know that IRS released Form 1116 SchB  in Dec. of last year, rather than last month (January).  TurboTax now has even more explaining to do.

And thank you for letting us know that the IRS e-file system can receive a PDF e-file attachment (such as the Schedule B in question). So now all TurboTax has to do is figure out how  to “allow”  that attachment. I imagine that’s quite difficult to do, possibly requiring an advanced degree from Carnegie Mellon, decades of experience, and weeks and weeks of system test.

But OLT did it, as discussed by a previous poster here. (We will not mention that HRB had Form 1116 up and running weeks ago). TT never disclosed that it would not support e-filing of 1116 with a carryover until very recently

And concerning your dislike of class action lawsuits:  many large companies do many very bad things - with impunity. That’s why they (Intuit included)  force their customers to agree to private arbitration. And that’s why they don’t like the new workaround:

No.

If the people on these threads would only read a page or two they would not be asking the same question for the status of the form.  The answer is available and there would be no need to post the same answer.

But since most people do not or will not read any of the thread I will continue to answer their questions.

As of today the Form 1116 for TurboTax desktop is not available nor is there any date given to expect it.

Nope.

I agree with Don in GA on this matter of the request for him to cease repeating the same info. What he is doing is not directed at those who have read this entire discussion, but rather at those who have read essentially none of it. For those people it is helpful.

The phrase “not the sharpest pencil(s) in the box” comes to mind.

@ikcamar If you run TT Desktop, you will see the message that update will be available on 3/3/2022.

Ad hominem attacks are not effective either.

Except that it's now 2/28 and Turbotax is still saying to 'wait.'

There are people like me who have read every single post and get tired of the monotony of reading the same canned answer sometimes with only one intervening post. It adds nothing to the conversation to parrot the Intuit company line under the guise of being an "expert." That answer has been proven wrong earlier in the thread so it is fairly meaningless.

If instead there was some insight into what TurboTax is encountering making this form available, that would be worth a post. What we know for certain is that it is delay within Intuit having nothing to do with the IRS.

when/if turbo tax finally actually addresses the issue without continuing to move their own self imsposed deadline, none us have to worry about reading any of these posts.  that's where the real effort should be expended.

Missing 2021 Form 1116

Its a simple matter of priorities.  instead of grumbling, I decided to see if the competition was better or not.  I purchased at 1/2 the price of turbotax, H&R block's equivalent and started to redo my taxes.  I had done this comparison about 10 years ago and at that time, found that turbotax was superior in the details - it addressed/asked questions about many things that Block did not.  But it was my impression that turbotax was getting worse, so I decided to test that hypothesis.  In terms of forms availability, its a wash.  Form 1116 final is available for e-filing on H&R desktop.  But another form I need to file my moderately complex return was not.   That form is even simpler than 1116, but it is delayed until Mar 1.  So its is a wash.  In terms of the rest, I will finish my returns and decide which is better.  I will say, I had the use of turbotax live and posted a  complex issue on the forum and received what I judge to be a high quality answer in both cases.  To give you an idea what I mean by complex - I asked 2 different CPAs and turbotax live as well as the forum and got 4 different answers.  The best advice came from the turbotax tax expert on the forum. He was the only one who really understood the nuances of the issue and was not a CPA.

One comment about the postings.  The more nonsensical the posting, the less likely you will get an answer from the experts at turbotax. They will simply ignore it.

Missing 2021 Form 1116

My son had 2 simple state tax returns this year in addition to his federal.   Despite using only TTax for nearly 3 decades, rather than buying a 2nd state through TTax, I used freetaxusa for it and saved the hassle of either paying $20 to e-file both or duplicating TTax on Ohio's antiquated online "service".  all in all I saved $40 plus hassle to go elsewhere AND got a bigger refund.  FTUSA wasn't as comprehensive as TTax but for an "EZ" return it was well worth the "cost"/effort.  Don't see a reason not to do all my EZ returns that way next year.  That's one foot (actually 4 feet) out the TurboTax door already.  Now I just have to ask myself if the TTax cost justifies using it for only 1 more complex return.  TTax you better be listening to all this complaining and free market intel...

@whodiini

One of the things I like about TurboTax is I can decide what I want to work on without needing to go through all of the easy step Q&A process.  Does the H&R Block system have a similar capability?
