Minnesota/ North Dakota taxes

I live and work in North Dakota for a Minnesota company since 1997 and just found out since 2018 that they after starting using a new payroll system have been taking out Minnesota taxes. I understand the two states have reciprocity agreements. How do I go about getting my money back? and can i do it using TurboTax? I've used TurboTax for years.

Minnesota/ North Dakota taxes

To get back the incorrect withholding you simply file a non resident return.

To stop the incorrect withholding :

Read the info on page 2 of the form then talk to the employer to get the 2021 form to fill in ...

Minnesota/ North Dakota taxes

Yes, you can get your money back. You will need to file amended state tax returns for 2018, 2019, and 2020 if you have already filed, @Critter-3 is correct.

Yes, you can do this using TurboTax. It is important to complete Minnesota first. Always end with the state of residence as of December 31.

First, for 2021, file Form MWR, Reciprocity Exemption/Affidavit of Residency for Tax Year 2020 which will stop Minnesota withholding and start North Dakota withholding. Update this form annually.

Second, to fix the prior years:

How do I amend a prior-year state return?

How do I file a nonresident state return?
