Maryland State Tax

I am filling out the tax forms for a new job in Maryland,  I am very confused about how to fill out this State Tax form question: "Total number of exemptions you are claiming not to exceed line f in Personal Exemption Worksheet on page 2".

Maryland State Tax

Hello vecheverria77,

Thank you for joining us today, we're so happy you're here!

I looked up the the Maryland's Form W-4 and it appears to be one page for 2023:  https://www.marylandtaxes.gov/statepayroll/Static_Files/Employee_W4/2023_W-4.pdf
In section 1(c), you will check the box that applies to your status (single, Married filing separate, etc.), then if you do have dependents, you will fill out Step 3.  Maybe the form they gave you is outdated, but from what you're describing, there is a worksheet that is not available for the current W-4 for Maryland.  I would use the form in the link I posted above and turn that one in.  Thanks again for participating!

Maryland State Tax

@vecheverria77 ,

To clarify,  it appears the form referenced is the MD 507 which is just for local and state withholding in Maryland. According to the Comptroller of Maryland the form is still used for 2023. You may be able to use either form.

The exemptions referred to on line 1 relate to the number on page 2.  You should complete lines a-f on page 2. Whatever amount you get on line f, should be the maximum amount put on line 1.

Is this helpful?
