Marriage and house

I got married in May and we purchased a house together in April. Neither of us changed our w4’s to married as of yet. We were planning on filing separately for this year anyways and only have the primary person on the house file for buying the home.  Is that going to cause any issues?

What the filing status is on the W-4 you give to your employer has no bearing on your filing status on a tax return.  The W-4 is only used to calculate how much federal income taxes are withheld from your wages.

If you are legally married then you can only file your tax return as a Married Filing Jointly or Married Filing Separately.
