The extension payment should be shown on Form 1040 Line 70.  If you used the TurboTax Easy Extension and paid an amount with the extension it normally would be transferred to the 2016 online return if you used the same user ID for the 2016 return as was used for the Easy Extension.

You can preview the Form 1040 at any time by clicking on My Account at the top of the program screen.  Click on Tools.  Click on View Tax Summary.  Click on Preview my 1040

If the extension payment is not shown on Line 70, then enter the amount manually.

To enter, change or delete a payment made with an extension request (Federal, State, Local) -

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
  • Click on Deductions and Credits
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Scroll down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid
  • On Other Income Taxes, click on the start or update button

On the next screen select the type of extension payment made and click on the start or update button

Or enter federal extension payment in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen.  Click on Jump to federal extension payment

Are you using online Free Edition?

If filing a Form 1040A, look to see if the amount is included on Line 46, and "Form 4868" is written near the Line.
If filing a 1040EZ, look to see if the amount is included on Line 9, and "Form 4868" is written near the line.

However, if you haven't yet paid any product fees, you may not be able to see the actual 1040A/EZ.   The "Preview Form 1040" may only show a Form 1040, instead of the actual 1040A/EZ.
