life insurance interest

I was the beneficiary of a life insurance policy. there was some interest that had accumulated due to it taking a couple years for them to contact me. I never received a 1099. how do I go about reporting the interest on my taxes? I don't know if I have to also report it on my state tax, I live in new York state.

Please report the interest amount AS IF you received form 1099-INT. Just put the amount in box 1, when going through TurboTax entries. Once you enter the information on the federal side, it will carry to the NY state tax return. You may click here for entry steps.
