I just received a 1099 NEC for the year 2021. What do I do now? The business that sent it is being audited and it was discovered that they were required to send them out. I did receive a few checks from them for cleaning that year.

If you did not enter that income when you prepared your 2021 tax return, you are going to need to amend 2021 to include it. The IRS will match that 1099NEC up with income that you reported for that tax year. Do not be surprised if you owe some tax, since you will have to pay self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare.

Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.
