K-1 Issue

I am having an issue with a K-1 for EPD. I have entered everything in TurboTax as done in previous years, but this year I am getting this (see picture). I don't know what I am supposed to do as there seems to be nothing for me to do, other than hit continue, which brings me back to the same thing. Any ideas? Thank for any advice.

K-1 Issue

This often happens because the software detects an "inconsistency" or a hidden required field that it isn't clearly highlighting on the screen. Since EPD is a Publicly Traded Partnership (PTP) with complex reporting (like Box 20 codes), here are some suggestions on how to break the loop:

1. The "Delete and Re-entry" Fix

  1. Often, the easiest way to clear a software glitch is to remove the "ghost" data causing the loop.
  2. Delete the K-1 entirely: Go to the K-1 summary page and click the trash can icon next to the EPD entry.
  3. Clear Cache/Restart: If you are using the online version, clear your browser cache and cookies. If using the desktop version, check for updates under the Online menu.
  4. Manual Re-entry: Re-enter the K-1 from scratch. Avoid using the "Import" feature if you used it previously, as the import often pulls in codes that the TurboTax interview process doesn't know how to handle, causing the loop.

2. Common Culprits in EPD K-1s

  1. EPD typically has multiple entries in Box 20. TurboTax sometimes struggles if multiple values are entered on the same line.
  2. Box 20 Codes: If you have multiple values for Box 20 (e.g., Code AH, Code N, etc.), try entering only the most critical ones first to see if you can pass the screen.
  3. The "Double K-1" Workaround: If the loop is caused by a specific box (like Box 16 or 20) having too many codes, some users find success by splitting the data into two separate K-1 entries in TurboTax for the same EIN. Put the main income/loss in the first one and the supplemental/credits information in the second.

3. Check the "PTP" and "Final" Boxes

  1. The interview loop often triggers because of the "Describe the Partnership" screen:
  2. Ensure you have checked that this is a Publicly Traded Partnership.
  3. If you sold your units this year, ensure you’ve marked it as a "Complete Disposition." If you didn't sell, make sure "Final K-1" is not checked, as the software will look for sales data you haven't entered yet.

4. Use "Forms Mode" (Desktop Version Only)

  1. If you are using the TurboTax Desktop (CD/Download) version:
  2. Switch to Forms Mode (top right corner).
  3. Find the K-1 Partner worksheet for EPD in the left sidebar.
  4. Look for any fields highlighted in red. This will tell you exactly what is missing that the "Step-by-Step" interview is failing to show you. You can type the info directly into the red field to clear the error.

Quick Tip: If you are stuck on a screen that says "Needs Attention" but has no fields to fill, try clicking the "Back" button two or three times and then "Continue" again. This can help the software reset its logic and let you keep going.
