It looks like you are using TurboTax Premier, which is when you have situations like rental property or investments. If this isn't the case, you can Clear and Start Over in TurboTax Free.https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/2586254-how-do-i-clear-and-start-over-in-turbotax-online
Turbo tax also offers the Freedom Edition, you can find information on this here:https://www.turbotax.com/lp/ty17/ppc/ffa.htm?cid=ppc_msn_b_stan_all_na_turbotax-freedom_ty17-bu2-sb9...
They also offer an AbsoluteZero® tax edition (for a limited time). If you file with AbsoluteZero® there will be no charge for your federal, state or filing fees. You will be able to file for $0 if you are filing a federal 1040EZ/1040A and:
•Made less than $100,000
•Don't own a home or rental property
•Didn't sell investments
•Don't own a business or have 1099-MISC income
•Don't have any major medical expenses
Remember returns must be filed before offer ends.
They used to allow you to do state returns and print them out to send by mail. Has that changed?
I am using deluxe
There is an additional charge for state taxes with all products, except Free Edition. https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/
If you are wanting to downgrade your account, follow the instructions in the following FAQ. Please note: if your tax situation requires an upgrade, you will be upgraded to the appropriate program.
To be clear, then: for users of the Deluxe version - which is most job-holding, home-owning parents - TurboTax now charges $50 for preparing a state return, when in the past there was no charge.
I'm in the same boat. Had student loan interest which requires deluxe edition to file and because I'm filing using the deluxe edition, I now have to pay an additional $50 for filing my state? what a joke...
Turbo Tax does require the Deluxe version to claim student loan interest. What you can do is compare what your refund is:
Compare the refund amount by using both methods. If the refund amount is much larger than the $50 you pay for deluxe, then upgrade!! if it is a $50 difference or less, leave your self in the free version. The choice is yours.
Yep, kind of doubled the price almost if you used to file your State by mail...
I have been a user of TurboTax for many years. Always buying the software each year. With the charge for the state refund now I will be choosing a different software next year.
If you buy the Desktop CD/Download program there has always been a fee to efile the state return. Is was $20 early to efile before March 1 and now $25 to efile state. Or you can print and mail state for free. Except New York is free to efile. Or you can have the fed deducted from a federal refund. Did you move from NY?
