No, The Control Number is the customer specific identifier located on your tax forms sent by Computershare. The Control number is printed in a shaded box on your tax form(s) provided to you by Computershare.
You can find your Holder Account Number, which is 10 digits long and begins with the letter 'C', on your statements. the Account Number will be located on the right hand side near the top of the statement.
I am having the same issue. The response to this post says to use the Control # in the shaded top right of the 1099B form and it starts with a C, but there is no shaded area. I see Computershare's Federal ID # as well as my Account #, but when trying either of those, it does not work. And neither of them start with a C.
To the original poster - did you find the answer? Could you please share, if so?
I have the same issue with computer share. I have 2 1099-B forms and neither of them have a control #. Is there a way to look this up?
This is the Computershare import into TurboTax information.
I'm having the same issue as others here. For reference, I work in the United States for a company that is based out of Canada, so I don't know if the fact that the form came from the Canadian division of ComputerShare is where the issue is? I've never had this problem in the past and none of my tax forms from previous years had a control number either.
FYI, this link just reiterates that the control number is in the shaded box, but there is no shaded box on my form (or any forms from previous years).
@RScales1 Have you attempted to contact Computershare to get the control number from them? Keep in mind that if you can't import your 1099-B you can still manually enter it using summary totals and then attach a pdf to the return.
I too am having the same challenge. Was there any solution or feedback? I called Computershare and keep getting told to call a different number. All numbers have significant wait times. There must be some answer somewhere even if that answer is "If no control number on the form, then it's not supported."
Anyone have any luck with this?
If you cannot import the 1099, you can follow the instructions here to manually import the 1099.
If you need additional assistance, please comment and let us know. @obadali
They are referring to a 1099-B, not 1099-DIV.
I have the same issue with computershare's 1099-B. There is no shaded box with a control number. The OMB number doesn't work either, no matter what format you enter it with.
You probably need to contact Computershare to obtain a corrected 1099-B. On their website, Computershare provides the following example of a 1099-B and where to find the control number.
Here is a link to the Computershare website.
Hi- Computershare doesn't provide a control no on their 1099-B for employee stock purchase. Full stop. Will TurboTax adjust to this? Every person in this situation has to enter it manually and it is a nightmare. thank you
My Computershare 1099-B does NOT contain a control number anywhere on the form. Outside of the inquiry I have already sent them, is there another way I can learn what my control number is? Or can I upload my forms without the control number?
You will need to contact Computershare.
