is it possible to get some help with filing previous years for individual filing and for my LLC that closed due to COVID?

I have all of the documents that I need to file from the IRS and have a lot of accounting experience but not enough to feel comfortable handling this on my own!  I need to file 2014-2018 personally (both parents died in 2014 and I'm named in a trust that I don't understand and a bunch of unclaimed funds) and then I started a company in 2019 that failed in 2020 due to COVID.  I have filed my state returns with the DOR but need to handle the personal and business on the federal level.  I filed 2020 just for the rebate due to never having received stimulus money or any kind of benefits but it's in some holding pattern with the IRS.  I really need some help.  Is this something TurboTax can help me with or should I get an advocate thru the IRS to step in?  I don't want to get into trouble and I sense me losing any refund out there if I don't get on this!

@Pheenie_Johnson , even though TurboTax does offer  help for somebody to look over your return and help you  -- for a, price, my honest opinion from reading your  post is that you would be better off going to a tax professional ( a cpa, EA or similar ) to bring you back in compliance. In any case IRS will be paying some attention to your returns for the next couple of years  to make sure that you are compliant.

Taxpayer Advocates office gets involved  when you have tried to get something resolved with the IRS and is not getting anywhere -- they will come-in and help adjudicate  the issue.

If you had only one years worth of taxes to file, I think there should be no reason  that you could not do it yourself -- TurboTax makes it very easy.

Based on your post and if I assume that  your business was a  single member LLC, then  you  do not file a separate  business return for the feds --- this is part of your individual retrun, the business dealing being reported on schedule-C --  single member is considered a disregarded entity ( even with an EIN and employees) for tax purposes.

The trust/Estate settlement is a different matter and very much depends on how the estate/trust documents were worded and the worth of the estate / kind of assets to be disposed of.  Again this is not complicated and you may or may not have to file a fiduciary return ( TubroTax Business required ).

Of course we , volunteers can help you , especially on specific areas / questions  but to bring you to compliance, you need personal help from  from a tax professional  ( many of us are retired  tax professionals , while others are extremely well versed in the use of TurboTax ).

Is there more I can do for you ?

@pk This is great information!  Fortunately, the numbers I'm talking about are not high but losing my parents was really hard and I let everything go.  The LLC was a partnership so that's why I mentioned it on a federal level.  To make that more confusing, I used a p2p for the business so I could accept debit cards and didn't realize there was a 20k limit for income in 2019.  Well, the p2p reported it to the IRS personally but the income was supposed to be reported as income for the business.  I had no idea that was done until last year.    I've already done the returns on a state level with the DOR but now I have this to straighten out too.  Regarding the IRS advocate, I have been in contact with the IRS regarding my 2020 rebate return and they were the ones who helped me discover the misfiling done without my knowledge in 2019.  I have every bit of documentation to show the numbers balance with my accounts but now I've got a mess because I didn't know what I was doing.  Truthfully, I am embarrassed that I let this happen out of shear ignorance but don't want the IRS to hate me so I need to get all of this handled before the guns come out.  I have been transparent with the DOR and IRS so I just look stupid and not a potential criminal lol.  I think getting a professional is the best route.  I did my personal taxes for 2014 last night and was totally overwhelmed.  Are you able to point me in the direction of someone who may want to take on this nightmare?

@Pheenie_Johnson , thank you for your reply and I get a better picture of the situation.   However, even if I knew where you are located ( you no can post Personally Identifiable Info  here --- this is open to public), I still would not be able to help you with finding tax professional.  Would suggest talking to  others -- because while there are lots of tax professionals  in any area, not all are well versed in all areas.   There is a very good source -- an IRS publication of Tax Professionals  that have signed  and agree to comply with circular 230 --- here is a link to this list, it is by zipcode -->  https://irs.treasury.gov/rpo/rpo.jsf

Note that unless you expect to challenge and IRS ruling and therefore need representation, it may be much cheaper to deal with an AFSP -- these cannot represent you  but most often can do all the rest of the work and at a much less cost.   Of course this is my personal opinion and others may disagree ( I am assuming here of course that all you want to do is to bring you back in compliance at the least expense ).

Hope this helps
