IND-032-04 - 'SpousePriorYearPIN' or 'SpousePriorYearAGIAmt' in the Return Header must match the e-File database.

turbo tax return rejected due to error code for incorrect AGI.

I got the AGI rejected right off my 2020 turbo tax submitted

form 1040. So that is as right as can be done. still rejected

a second time.

How is that?

If it was rejected for AGI—-be aware that many 2020 returns took so long for the IRS to process that your 2020 AGI might not be in the IRS system.   Try using zero instead.

If filing with zero is rejected then file again but select the option that you did not file last year.  The IRS does not see that question and it will allow you to e-file with no AGI question.

If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.

After being rejected the second time. I made copies for my returns

and got ready to mail them. But then the above appeared in my inbox and I

decided to try. I set AGI to zero and submitted via TTax and got accepted.

I did verify that my original AGI was right, so that's the condition under which

the fix worked.

Give it a try

"If filing with zero is rejected then file again but select the option that you did not file last year. "

I can't find this option in 2023 TurboTax. Has it been removed?

My federal electronic filing has been rejected using the correct last year AGI and also a second time using zero. When I requested a transcript, a report came back saying that there is no 2022 return on file for me. I used TT last year and the amount due was deducted from my checking account. Any ideas? Thanks.

The IRS uses your prior year AGI to combat fraud.

You can find your 2022 Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) by:

Looking at line11 on page 1 of your 2022 Form 1040; or

You can request a transcript of your 2022 tax return from the IRS to ensure you have the right number. You can request your transcript online at the following link: Get Transcript

Check these items as well to ensure you have the correct number.  If you:

Filed late last year after mid-November or your return was processed after that time—try entering 0.

Amended your return last year—make sure you’re using the AGI from your original return, not the amended one. (If you only have a 1040X form, it’s on line 1, column A).

Rounded your AGI to the nearest dollar—be sure to round up when it’s 50 cents or more and down when it’s 49 cents or less.

Filed with your spouse last year—you and your spouse have the same 2022 AGI. (Don’t split the AGI amount or enter 0 for one of you).

Time-saving Tip: If what you entered is correct and you continue to get a reject, you won't be able to e-file. There's probably a data mismatch at the government, or some other situation beyond your control that prevents your return from being e-filed. In this case, your only option would be to print and mail in your return.

This article will give you instruction on how to print and mail your return.
